Thanks so much to everyone who’s purchased the new Fragiles record, we were able to raise $150 for Palestinian refugees through Anera so far! I will keep donating whatever comes through, just posting this for transparency.
If you buy a cassette, it’s as handmade as possible to provide it a personal touch. I’m dubbing them, making the inserts with little messages, labeling everything (sorry in advance for my handwriting). Just a small little protest against the ever-growing encroachment of AI.
New Fragiles record is out today! Huge thanks to @not_watching and @cathro_me for helping to actualize these songs and record them, @circlechangeup for some guest synth spots, @hthrjns.wav for the excellent mastering, and @senstive_plant for some long distance drum recordings for the last three songs we did. This was my last fully Philadelphia record, so I’m glad I got to do it with some Philly all-stars.
The title of the record came from this biography of Sun Ra, even though I misremembered the quote and switched up some words. But he did that shit all the time with titles so I don’t feel too bad. Just putting this out on tape (only got eight left) and not playing any shows, so hit up bandcamp or the Living Lost Records web store for a copy. All money made from digital and cassette sales will be donated to Anera, an organization providing aid to refugees in Palestine.
It’s been 5 years since I put out a record of my own. Been busy getting married, having a kid, and moving a whole bunch. Also wrote a whole country record that I ended up scrapping and was playing with 2nd Grade for a bit. All that to say, I’ll be getting back somewhat to my silly pace of record releases. I’m really proud of this one though! It’s a weird mix of songs but I think they work really well together. Thanks to everyone who checks it out.
One more new song before the album comes out, probably my favorite on the record. “Hell Or” is musically indebted to The Feelies in both structure and strum (and indebted to Love for the title). It was written in 2021, about if we’d gotten over the bowing to fascism thing or if we were going to double down on it. Unfortunately at the time of release, that has been answered with gusto. Here’s hoping for a pendulum swing of equal value.

Lily’s one year old today! Can’t believe it was a year ago she was in the NICU for a whole month, she’s a fully grown toddler now stumbling into every dangerous corner of the house imaginable. Lighting up my days with her laughs and babbling and shortening my nights with her 4am wakeups. It’s been the best year of my life, can’t wait to explore more and show her all the new things.

Lily’s home with us and out of the NICU!! We’re so over the moon excited to have her home with us now. Thanks so much to everyone who reached out and sent help our way, it really blew us away and provided some much needed aid. We would’ve been in a way worse spot without y’all.
I personally didn’t realize how difficult a NICU stay would be, but spending 36 straight days with our daughter in a hospital, and going home every night without her was one of the hardest things we’ve ever done. I’ll honestly probably be haunted by the sounds of heart and breathing monitors for a long time now. Thankfully the nurses and staff were all amazing and Lily is now in good health. That’s all that matters now! The two drawings are by Sandy’s mom and I love them so much.
Our daughter Lily Robin Settle surprised us last Sunday at 3 in the morning, 7 weeks early. She’s got stuff to do apparently! She’s learning how to eat and breathe in the NICU and is doing better everyday so far. Just weighed in at 4.44 ounces, finally over her birthweight. It’s been really hard leaving her there everyday to go home, but they’re taking amazing care of her and we’re overjoyed (and pretty stressed at the same time, it’s a roller coaster).
Some folks have asked if there’s anything they can do to help, and while we’re pretty set on baby stuff, we wouldn’t say no to a couple of bucks to help out with dinners, gas, and supplies! Premature birth has definitely thrown some expenses and stress our way that we weren’t quite prepared for. If you feel inclined, my Venmo is @d -sett. Thoughts and well wishes are great too :)
