I picked this 4-track up new from Guitar Showcase in San Jose in 1992. I was just 16/17 years old at the time and was hyped to finally have a way to multi-track record the band I had at time with a couple friends.
We put it to good use and made a really decent document of our tunes that got dubbed and passed around school and landed us a few nice local gigs. It was a step up from the Radio Shack mixer into my pops old 70's era 2-track TEAC cassette that I'd been making due with for before.
I eventually left the band and worked this thing into my first setup for creating singular music creations, along with some of my very first attempts at making hip-hop beats. It unfortunately stop working ... and before I'd created much of anything worth sharing, lol.. but l've still held onto it all these years.
I think I might work on getting it running once again this year. Just for old times sake.
Psyched to have been invited to rock at this one by an artist I've appreciated from a very long time back.
Sixtoo's latest project "30" and his live A/V production for it is just masterful and meticulously constructed. I went to see it in Shibuya last month, looking forward to checking it out up close this time at Sound Bar Patrol.
This entire lineup is crazy talented and the secret guest is a wild one, too. Should be a night for the books.
I'd have been in line for this one, regardless.
What a wild past month. My son turned 18, I turned 50. Milestones. We had a wonderful but all too short visit back to California where I saw a bunch of great old friends and met few new ones. Wish I would have had more time to chill and been in a better frame of mind to take more pictures, l can only blame the jet lag. Huge thanks to all who did take pics and to some of my way back homies who took the time to pull up from all over to the function. Had a really precious time with my family there, love them dearly. Missed connecting with a few people I really wanted to see, but hopefully another time.
After a long hiatus, back for a Golden Week afternoon/evening show with some of my most favorites again at Solfa in Nakameguro on 4/29. Cheers to the Open1 crew for the invite.ππ»
Turnstile was the first track Cal and I worked on together last fall via file sharing Tokyo<~>NYC. We met several years back while he was living out here in Tokyo and reconnected again last year with a collab in mind.
Slowly but steadily over the year we cooked up the rest of the tracks on his new 721 Walton Ave. EP, wrapping up his recording at my spot in August while he was back out here over the summer holiday.
When he got back to the US, Cal took on the big endeavor of self-producing a full-length video for Turnstile, I think it turned out great!
(Full version is on YouTube, check it out.)
Had a great time putting this project together, hope you find time to dig into the music and the video. If you dig it, please share and help us spread the word!

Finally!! Excited to release some new music, it's been a few years too long. This project, "721 Walton Ave", is an EP dropping on 10/25 that I've produced, mixed and mastered for former LA to Tokyo, and since NYC, resident emcee Cal Combs.Β
I'm really proud of what we both have brought to the table on this project.
From Cal, skilled bars of thoughtful social sentiment and introspective observations that I think are quite relevant to these wild times, but no worries, it's not without some occasional good-old braggadocios emcee type shit, lol. Dude can RAP, he deserves his say and your listen. From myself, I hope you find taste for obscure sounds sourced from my local thrift store record bins, alongside lots of original analog instrumentation.. with some nasty drums, all mangled and mixed to perfection (well, my ideal at least π ). While just 5 songs, I think between us we've managed to hit a few satisfyingly different and interesting vibes throughout, hope you dig it!!
