夜の花 (flowers of the night) 2 Continued from my last post

夜の花 (flowers of the night) 1 I intentionally aim for abstraction rather than realism here, to allow for mood, mystery, and romantic coincidence. I hope it gives you space for your mind to insert the missing pieces. This sketch reminds me of different times in my life, in different places in the world, that I have viewed beautiful flowers outdoors at night while alone. The memories are sweet, but also piercing. A sense of the flower and I living in separate dimensions. Like accepting an unexpected gift, with a sense of irrevocable loss. I guess that’s just how something ethereal makes me feel. Some specific memories: plum blossoms and cherry blossoms in Japan and Korea, dense jungle foliage in Vietnam, and night-blooming jasmine in Thailand. These memories are more than just nostalgic—every time I revisit them, the neural pathways used at those past times are fusing with the pathways I use in the present. It’s a continuous feedback loop of past awe and longing combined with however I’m feeling in the present, causing emotions to compound and sometimes spill over unexpectedly. The result is a quickened, directionless longing shaped by time and experience, through periodic revisitation. The joy of hungering for something unattainable. Those who love flowers may understand how I feel. I sculpted this low-poly flowers/leaves model in @blender.official 3 years ago. You can see the original model, a humble un-textured snapshot, if you scroll down my profile a bit (never throw anything away, seriously). I gave it new life in @touchdesigner . The music is Jynweythek by Aphex Twin from Drukqs. For night blooms, I wanted sounds that have a high specular quality, and also some softer, more organic timbres—prepared piano. I’m about to post the rest of the video/track…thanks for watching.

Goodbye, 2025 🙏 At the end of this year, I feel tremendous gratitude. I’ve made so many new friends, and received so many wonderful opportunities, during my first-to-second year in Seattle. The warmth and kindness I’ve received from so many of you has been life-changing. Thank you for welcoming this unapologetically-opinionated, weird-accented, creatively-intense misfit into your communities, events, and lives. You’ve no idea what it means to me. 🖤 While I’ve also had negative experiences this year, in retrospect, they pale to the positive experiences I’ve had. In April 2025, I started VJing and learned that I absolutely love it. I also exhibited my own art in a gallery for the first time in November. Besides that, I continued doing all the ongoing practical and psychological work necessary to settle back into living in the US, after living in Asia for a decade and a half. I also learned more about trust, risk-taking, self-acceptance/preservation/restraint/love, and the importance of being focused. My personal hope for 2026 is to grow artistically, get stronger physically, and find a way to creatively marry my past life experience in Asia to my present life experience in the US. I hope to meet and learn from many more people, and deepen relationships with those I already know. 🌱🤝🌱 Other than that, I hope for: 1. far, far less violence and harmful intent in this world 2. more people trying to engage with complex problems with nuance and a long-term view, rather than a black/white lens and instant self-gratification in mind 3. More people to close their Spotify accounts, and instead spend that $10 per month on Bandcamp, artist merch, or just donating it to your favorite artist. I switched to Tidal for streaming, which pays its artists a bit better than Spotify, doesn’t fund evil undertakings, and has virtually the same UX and library as Spotify. Love, growth, and cybernetics in 2026 to you all 🖤🌱🌎, cyra

@p32beepboop performing at @blk.ldg.sea on 12/01/2025 Filmed by @nilc.nilc I have performed visuals with Project 32 once before, at The Mountain Room back in August. I was blown away by his musical performance then, and couldn’t believe it when he said it was his first show following a long hiatus. It was a high energy set, very bass-y and kinetic, bearing a distinct personal style. This time, at the Black Lodge, he treated everyone to a sound bath that I might liken to the mysterious thoughts that enter one’s mind during a prolonged meditation session. It was immersive, yet gave the listener the freedom to explore the aural space as they wished, at their own pace. Shaping the visual accompaniment in real time, I felt immense gratitude to be able to work at such a fine scale with a musician that crafts his work with both intention and delicacy. Immediately before this performance, I had received some constructive feedback from friends. Basically, they said that I could linger longer on each scene…allow the audience to spend more time with each scene, give it more time to breathe and develop. I took this to heart and consciously used a gentler hand while triggering scenes and shaping them over time with effects via my MIDI controller. The result, I think, was a visual offering that blended better with the music, that perhaps allowed some subtle subconscious feeling to emerge. Like that state just as you’re drifting off to sleep…I hope. 🙏🖤 In retrospect, I know I was channeling Japanese industrial designer Kenya Hara’s book “White,” as well as Ryoji Ikeda’s monochrome AV works, and the Japanese aesthetic of “ma” (間) which emphasizes the beauty of empty space. 12/1/2025 @ybot performing at @blk.ldg.sea Filmed by @nilc.nilc 🙏 This performance unlocked a new level of creativity in me. @ybot ‘s pensive tempo, emotive sound sweeps, and subtle textural nuances provided me with ample space in which to delve deeper into my visual world. As I fused it with ybot’s soundscapes, I felt a visceral connection to the music and time seemed to slow down. My VJ process is highly manual, rhythmic, and improvisatory; the urgency of improvisation hones my senses and creative reactions, and often treats me to happy little surprises. Much love and gratitude to the good people of The Black Lodge and the organizers of Electric Blue, a very special recurring experimental music event held every other Monday. I’ll return, as a member of the audience, for sure! I’ll be sharing more videos from the event over the coming days… #seattlemusic #seattlemusicscene #seattlevj
