Child, Youth & Families Cabinet Secretary Valerie Sandoval visited campus to discuss child welfare priorities, legislative updates, and workforce initiatives.
This was a unique opportunity for our students, faculty, and staff to engage directly with state leadership and explore the real-world impact of social work in our communities.
What is child abuse?
Child abuse is the act of knowingly, intentionally, or without justification, causing physical or emotional harm to a child or youth.
Abuse can include:
Suspected non-accidental injuries: burns, broken bones, bruises, and welts.

To me, social work is having open and honest dialogue with people about their problems (as well as their successes), and coming up with a solidified plan to give them the tools and resources they need to have the best outcomes in their lives.

Social Work is building connections with people, sometimes during their darkest times, and partnering with them to bring support and services to brighten their path.
Young people's lives are improved by having better opportunities and access to services such as housing, education, and finances, which make a long-term positive impact, resulting in many opportunities for success and celebrations.
