Proud of how this demo turned out at the end of our Bachata ConRi instructor training- nothing like being in the moment with the music and letting an improvised dance flow out. The nerves kicked in, and we completely blacked out mid-dance and didn’t remember a thing until we watched it back though 😅 All the hours training on fundamentals, techniques, and style kicked in through muscle memory during our dance. This demo’s a milestone for us- a snapshot of our progress and how we perform under pressure. Big thanks to @cornelrithika_official @cornelr2090 @rithikapoojary23 for the training and demo opportunity, and @reggiekay.af for months of pushing us to level up through his mentorship. Leads use way too much tension sometimes. We don’t need to lead every moment of every move. We try to use the least amount of energy possible while still keeping my lead soft and clear. When we stop forcing everything, it gives the follow space to create her own shape, styling, and interpretation of the music too. The dance ends up feeling lighter, smoother, and way more aesthetic. BREATHE… is something we say all the time in class 😅 One of the biggest things that changes how your bachata looks and feels is learning when to relax and when to engage your frame. If we’re just doing basics, we don’t need to be tense the whole time. Sometimes after a turn, I’ll soften, breathe, and just enjoy some footwork with my follow. A social dance shouldn’t feel like forcing your “perfect” idea the whole song. As leads, we have to pay attention when the follow gives her own interpretation too. Sometimes she hears a different accent, wants a different texture, or adds movement you didn’t originally plan for. Those moments are what make a dance feel real and different each time. The best social dancers aren’t just leading moves. They’re adapting in real time and creating something together through the music.
