Been a bit since I’ve shot stills…for real. I’ve had so much fun doing these! Some of you may know I did film production then stills full time then came back film production. Back in my still days I shot for The Associated Press, Getty Assignment, The Kansas City Star, The Wall Street Journal, Time, The University of Kansas , CVS, NBC Universal, etc. I lost my desire to take a still camera out for many years but every once in a while the fire would burn a bit. Lately that spark has not stopped. Doing it for the pure joy of photography. It was a bit of a drive today but totally worth it. We stayed until twilight was gone.

Here’s an older interview that my mentor and friend @rhwasc interviewed me for his series “Beyond The Darkness.” I finally got around, after a few years putting it up here not because I forgot about it, but because I’ve had a switch in my thinking. It all goes back to something I spoke of on my Substack writing about “talking yourself up” (Substack link in my bio inside my linktree). It was a proud moment for me, after a lifetime of being paralyzed with self-doubt I packed up my things and moved to LA, finally chasing my dream. There I was in front of @paramountpics with my mentor and he’s interviewing ME. It kinda blew my mind. The purpose of this little post? Don’t wait….follow your dreams, chase them and run them down, never letting them go. Go all in. Safety is an illusion in life. Keep moving forward my friends and leap. It is a place where kids, no matter who they are or where they come from are welcomed with open arms and hearts, celebrating the diversity in everyone. For the past two years, right after Christmas, I’ve headed up to the Santa Cruz Mountains to work with @campyatc —an incredible organization teaching kids acting and filmmaking. 🌲🎬 Each year, multiple teams come together to shoot short films in just one week—a whirlwind of creativity and collaboration that’s truly inspiring. In summer, Camp YATC also runs a theater program, making the arts accessible to kids year-round. What makes this place special is its unwavering commitment to inclusivity: every child is welcomed with open arms, in an environment that’s accepting, non-judgmental, and full of laughter and love. It’s the best kind of set to be on. The process is intensive yet rewarding: we split into small teams with 5–8 kids acting and 2–3 kids learning as crew. I serve as Director, Cinematographer, Gaffer, Key Grip—often all at once. A student director shadows me, and all the kids not only act but also learn the filmmaking process hands-on. Despite the many moving parts, I’m always amazed at how smoothly everything comes together. Though I’m usually the quiet, reserved one, what I see—and deeply appreciate—is a community of amazing, creative kids and dedicated adults radiating positive energy. Special thanks to my friend @soundguyjimmy , who invited me to Camp YATC a couple of years ago. Not knowing what to expect, I said yes—my dad was an educator for 38 years, and it felt right. I’m so grateful I did, and that I continue to be part of the incredible work led by Shawn Ryan, Valerie Dohrer, and the entire team.
