It was so great to have Dan Cutrone, @cutronezone , back at the Glass Education Center! Dan is presenting a two-part addition in our “Next Steps Seminar” series. For part one, Dan presented to a full house of curious and creative students some of the possibilities of infusing digital processes into their glassmaking practice. Dan share many ways he has leveraged technology in his own projects and brought many physical examples of the experimentation and work he has done with digital technologies in concert with his own glassmaking. We are so looking forward to this Friday for part two of this inspiring presentation!

This month’s First Friday Featured Artist demonstration will be brought to you by our very own Dan Cutrone.
Daniel Cutrone is an artist and educator living and working in the city of Philadelphia. He earned his BFA in Painting from University of the Arts and MFA in Glass from Tyler School of Art at Temple.
He has studied with Italian glass masters such as Lino Tagliapietra and Pino Signoretto.
Dan has been an educator for over 20 years and has taught glass at Temple University, Pilchuck Glass School, Penland School of Crafts, and Salem Community College.
He has lectured, demonstrated, and exhibited work across the U.S.
Dan’s work resides in several private and public collections around the country, including the Museum of American Glass at Wheaton and the Ringling Museum of Art.

Demonstration from “Glassblowing II” with Dan Cutrone, @cutronezone , of a vessel inspired by a glass and silver Roman beaker from the 1st century A.D.
Dan demonstrated applying silver sheet to the outside of a stuff cup full of holes. While prepping his bubble to blow inside he did some prep work for a future project. After overlaying some color, he pulled a short tube showed how to break it down into small colored sections (suppio) for picking up for a future piece. He saved the last colored section for blowing into the cup he’d applied the silver sheet on. Demos within demos! 👏👏👏🔥

It's been a while, but here's a 2-part press mold project I worked on earlier this year. It's a historical replica.
