Welcome Lima (pronounced Lee-ma) to the farm!
Her mama Butterbean gave birth last Tuesday, a bit early, but at an actual great time. They're both thankfully healthy and vibrant (see the video!).
The past six weeks at @saloma.acres has been A LOT, and her life is a cheerful sight after the passing of our beloved Saloma mare matriarch Ti-Jeanne in late March.
You're right, you didn't hear anything from me about this, it was truly too depressing to talk about, but Lima has been a blessing in the wake of that.
We've been so glad to have friends and family visit in the past few weeks, like Jill who has a mighty horse of her own and my brother and niece who spent last week at Saloma helping me get things steady, and honestly, just being family in the place I needed them to be.
Thank you Jasmine and Chris for all you do for Saloma Acres, thank you to all who contribute in the background in multiple ways.
It's actually all a blessing, and I'm grateful.

Thank you again to everyone who came out to @651arts last night (I didn't get an audience pic, but will share that one when I do) to celebrate the birthday and life of my wife DeLana.
As many folks were not able to make it down to SC for the Dec. 12th memorial service, I'm so glad that and grateful to Fatima, Renee, Novella, Steph, and Jessica for organizing this special night and to Terrance Hayes, Raina Leon, Laura Pegram, Maya Millet, Sharbreon Plummer, and Spurgeon Smith to adding their voices in rememberance.
I didn't realize how much I needed this, as did so many in attendance.
Equally grateful to my my friends and hers who were able to attend last night. It was wonderful to have you all out. Thank you Toya and 651 Arts for hosting us in your new beautiful space.
Today I finally began going through some more heartfelt following my wife @delana.r.a.dameron 's passing, like the cards from the 20+ wreaths, bouquets, and sprays from the service (look out for thanks via text, email, or snail mail in the coming week) and this very special scrapbook that @rainaleon and the folks from The Watering Hole (@twhpoetry ) put together right before the new year at their winter retreat, which DeLana attended and facilitated at many times.
It took me over a week to even really open this up and read all the beautiful letters and reflections gathered not just from fellow TWH poets but from friends and fellow artists and writers because I thought it would just honestly make me cry (more), but it actually made me feel really good. I already know how people felt about her, but it's something about seeing it in written form, and then put together in such a thoughtful manner, that makes s difference.
Some were written to her, others to me...all were written with love.
As Avery says in here, which was very comforting
"...her life is a seed. Fertile.
Decide. Do. Be
Lead with the art"
Totally her.
Watch for a very special gift at the end from poet/artist Terence Hayes' lifelike acrylic painting of DeLana. Terence is humble, but he captured her beautifully and accurately...not a reproduction of the photo, but part of her introspective vibe that those of us who really knew her saw.
Thank you all so much. I'm very grateful to you all for the continued outpouring of love toward my wife and our family. We are all sharing in this deep loss.

in reading the recollections of her beloveds, one shared that DéLana would toast her successes before they came. She believed so deeply that what she had put attention to would return that attention that she would raise of glass of champagne. And it worked again and again. Something big would happen. She moved with an assuredness, a clarity in her purpose. And offers that example and wisdom to us all. We need space to share the lines that moved us, the memories that we treasure, and affirm one another in our purpose and dreams. And her work must taught so let’s gather to do that, collaborating on creating resources for folks to use in their classrooms. @cavecanempoets@twhpoetry@alexispauline #BlackArtsFuturesFund @curtiscaesarj the quote on the first flyer actually comes from @itsmetheyfollow with the epigraph to her book being from Tubman “When I found I had crossed that line, I looked at my hands to see if I was the same person. There was such a glory over everything; the sun came like gold through the trees, and over the fields, and I felt like I was in Heaven.“ which made me think of what it must have been like for DéLana to first meet the land that would become @saloma.acres
