On Friday, July 15, from 6:30-9pm, enjoy a special screening of I Am Not Your Negro at Eaton DC with Baldwin House Community Collective. The screening will be followed by a post-film discussion and Q&A with Baldwin House organizers. Tickets in bio. Baldwin House, named to honor James Baldwin’s truth-telling and visionary work, is working to reclaim the place of Black and brown, displaced and native Washingtonian, poor and working-class, queer and trans communities in Ward 1 DC. After more than a year of planning with the tenants association and partners, a group of organizers (@dcw1mutualaid ) from the Ward 1 Mutual Aid Network have signed a contract to purchase a four-story apartment building on Sherman Ave NW to become an affordable housing cooperative and community hub for mutual aid activities. All ticket sales benefit the ongoing fundraising for this project, and attendees will have the opportunity to discuss the film and the next steps for Baldwin House with members of the organizing team. . . @dcw1mutualaid Repost from @eaton.dc

During tonight's event, we will hear from @dcabortionfund about their work supporting abortions here in DC and how you can help. Join us! Link in bio. Repost from @dcabortionfund • Just like all of you, we’re watching the news, following online, and receiving texts from friends and family about the anti-abortion Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade. We’re not surprised but angry, heartbroken, and frustrated. But more than that – we're resilient. We’re still here, and we’re not going anywhere. We will continue to do what we have done for over 26 years: fund abortions. And with the overturning of Roe v. Wade, our work has never been more critical. More than ever, people will need abortion funds. That work is only possible because of the generous contributions from supporters like you. Make a donation to support DC Abortion Fund with the link in our bio. #AbortionAlways #ReproductiveJustice #liberateabortion #nostigma #currentmovements

In this difficult moment, the acompañantes movement in Mexico can teach the U.S. reproductive rights activists about grassroots mobilization where restricted access to abortion is the norm. Their flexible and holistic model of abortion care anticipates the limits of state health services and the formal medical establishment. This Wednesday, join The En Nepantla collective for a fundraiser & night of storytelling from the frontlines of Reproductive Justice. Link in bio All funds raised will go towards completing the documentary film “Acompañantes”, as the En Nepantla Collective follows the struggles for reproductive justice on both sides of our border. “Acompañantes” centers on the voices and experiences of frontline activists, doulas, and mutual aid networks committed to providing emancipated reproductive care, no matter what. This event will feature a premiere screening of the “Acompañantes” teaser. The collective members will also share reflections from their work along the U.S and Mexican border. #filmscreening #fundraiser #abortion #reproductivejustice #abortionrights #abortiondoula #currentmovements

Juneteenth is all about Black freedom and joy. We are partnering with Harriet’s Wildest Dreams @harrietsdreams for the Chocolate City Jubilee that uplifts Black Washingtonians, GoGo, wellness, and freedom fighting! Sunday Juneteenth 12-5pm Freedom Plaza Free Concert Free Black owned Alkaline Water Free Fish Sandwiches Medic Tent with health mutual aid and HIV and HEP-C Testing Demands for Black Body Freedom: Bans Off Our Bodies: Abortion sanctuary legislation passes the DC council and US Congress. Black Migrants Matter Here: Access to abortion and funding for all people regardless of their citizenship status. Hands off DC: DC residents should not be used as political bargaining chips with or without statehood. If SE Don’t Get It, Shut It Down: We need access to quality birthing options in all settings east of the Anacostia River. Free Black Mamas in Ward 9: End pre-trial detention as a false deterrent for crimes of access, poverty, and care, as we fight to decriminalize reproductive care. Care Not Cages: We must fund a 24 hour harm reduction center and decriminalize drugs. Biden Better Have My Money: Reparations for descendants of American chattel slavery, mass incarceration, and violence at the hands of white supremacists, and police. Because our power and freedom comes from movement not courts. As a community… Step away policing each other’s reproductive choices and care. Everyone and their neighbor needs to be an abortion doula. We must couple donations to abortion funds with donations to bail funds. Join Harriet’s Wildest Dreams multiple campaigns for freedom in DMV. /join Want to know more about our campaigns? “Photos from [last] week at @eaton.dc for the Becoming Abolitionists book conversation with author @dereckapurnell . This sold out event was filled with magical conversations about abolition. Thank you @currentmovements [and @harrietsdreams ] for inviting me to capture these moments. I am constantly inspired by the beautiful work people are doing in our communities. These events help us reimagine what our neighborhoods can look like without the systems that oppress us.” Photos & word by @conradomuluc #abolishthepolice #abolishice #abolition #activism #artforchange #community #streetmeetdc #acreativedc #eventphotography
