šTHIS IS A COACHš
.
.
.
š„A few people have wanted to punch this face and thatās ok (please donāt actually do it)š„
.
.
When weāre in the depths of a coaching partnership, moving through the nitty gritty parts of performance and development, we uncover an array of beliefs, behaviours and habits that keep you stuck (spoiler alert, our brains love keeping us stuck) - we then explore the role they play in limiting your brilliance. Doing this for the first time can feel:
š«£Exposing
š«£Vulnerable
š«£Uncomfortable
I get it, Iāve been there (and still go there).
When we play in and explore these spaces, I know the importance of being able to work with someone who is going to:
āļøChallenge you (coaches arenāt supposed to be agreeable)
āļøGuide you (without an agenda, weāre not your friends or family who want particular things for you)
āļøSupport you (creating a safe and non-judgemental space for you to explore, reflect and grow)
āļøMove forward (keep you focused on your dreams and goals)
When the discomfort kicks in and the desire to š„ arises, we will go gently, we will move compassionately and we will LEAN IN to this feeling as itās from here you truly grow.
š¤Together, we will lay it all out and create the space for you to choose how you move forward, youāll soon be ready to take the gloves off š„ and set yourself free

āWHYā
Itās a word I hear twenty times before 8am.
Why is the sky blue?
Why do we have eyebrows?
Why do we need sleep?
Why are you old?
Why donāt slugs have shells?
Why?
But, why?
Thatās from my 4 year old and sometimes my husband.
Iāve been trained NOT to ask the question why, itās sacrilege in coaching. But why?
Well, itās highly pressured, it requires us to justify our thoughts, actions and beliefs without wider exploration and is a quick way to break the flow of conversation. We have a highly complex relationship with those three letters.
When was the last time you sat and questioned why you do what you do? I think so many of us have lost our why, lost our source of what kicked off the passion and have morphed into a measure of metrics and economics.
So many of our whys are about human experiences, lived feelings, subtle shifts in state⦠weāve chosen to ignore them for the sake of more more more.
A brief reminder to plug into your inner 4 year old and ask yourself the bold question. Why?
#why?
šNYE: TAKE A SECš

Is there a better time than the new year for reflection and planning? Wishing you all the courage and the light to find balance in life. Life absolutely needs planning and direction, but not to the point of suffocation. May these prompts permeate your daydreams and accompany you in quiet moments to help build your flow of life for 2025. ā¤ļø
āļøTHE MILLENNIUM CALLEDā¦āļø
ā¦IT WANTS ITS CONSPIRACY BACK.
šāāļøSit for a second. Close your eyes. Feel your body. Are you racing? Are you chasing? Are you struggling to catch up with yourself?
š ļøWeāre in the thick of the frenzy, racing to this imaginary finish line of downing work tools for the end of the year, cramming every ounce of space to the brim with work and social commitments which are likely going to see us arrive at this holiday utopia a shell of our former selves. The world is not going to end on January 1st.
šAs the year draws to a close and businesses push to meet their end-of-year targets and festive plans rear their heads, we create an atmosphere of urgency and heightened activity. Itās almost as if weāre conditioned to believe that everything must be accomplished before the clock strikes midnight on December 31st, as though a magical reset button will erase any unfinished tasks or missed opportunities.
ā°This collective mindset of a year-end deadline can of course serve as a powerful motivator, driving us to work harder, connect with loved ones, and make the most of the remaining days. However, it can also lead to unnecessary stress and a sense of inadequacy when we inevitably fall short of our lofty expectations.
š¤Is this perhaps why January is so depressing? Weāve busted a gut to push life to the limits only then to judge how far short we fell and become hermits.
āļøThe key is to find balance amidst the chaos, to start thinking of time as a continuum, not this Cinderella psychosis. To focus on what truly matters and prioritize our well-being in the face of mounting pressure.
š»The end of year deadline is FAKE. Pace yourself, look after yourself and if you need a reminder that youāre in control of your time and energy, this is it.
Big love. š§”
šŖ«The BIG resetš
Packed away your summer clobber? Or prancing around in the hot pants of denial?
Autumn is here my friends, whether youāre welcoming it with open arms or feeling the onset of SAD. The bite in the air, the crispy crunch underfoot - for me, September has that undeniable back to school feeling. I can still feel the pure thrill of perusing the WHSmith isles for the latest drinks can pencil case (Pepsi, obvs).
The annual shift of light and warmth brings an opportune time to hop off the luggage belt of summer and take a little control back.
š Itās RESET time, my friends š
āøļø Power down: breathe, be still, meditate, journal, stretch, observe
š¤Reflect: ask yourself the tough questions. What isnāt serving me? Where am I wasting energy? What behaviours shall I leave in the beer garden? What do I want more of? How do I want to feel? What do I need to let go off?
š„Power up: Reconnect, be clear, stay focused, avoid distraction, fill your cup up and crack on
š» Itās the simple reboot, human version. Turn off from the noise, reflect and power on.
You are in complete control of how you show up. Have fun. Be bold. Get creative and CHOOSE.

ā°Time to get playfulā°
.
.
.
š Go onnnnnnnn. The more curious you are, the more you learn. The more you learn, the more you grow. The more you grow, the more you experience. The more you experience, the bigger your world.
āļø Expanding your world doesnāt mean expensive plane tickets and long haul travel, it doesnāt mean bigger pay checks and more square footage.
ā¤ļø Expanding your world is:
~ Connecting with people
~ Learning something new
~ Deepening gratitude
~ Appreciating simplicity
~ Slowing down
šļøāāļø Curiosity takes effort, it isnāt passive, itās a muscle that needs to be flexed. Why bother? Youāll feel more fulfilled, connected, inspired, energised, playful and others will feel so wonderful in your company.
š§ How to get curious?
~ Ask the question
~ Follow the rabbit hole (not an insta feed)
~ Invest in the person
~ Take a different route
~ Look up
~ Look down
~ Shift perspective
~ Write
~ Read
~ Listen
~ Listen
~ Truly listen
šŖFor the love of life, go and drink it all up, live it, learn about it, be playful with it and hereās to the doors that open because of it.
šÆPractice Being HumanšÆ
šÆ
šÆ
Dictionary: Practice: the act of doing something regularly or repeatedly to improve your skill at doing it
In the practice of being human, that āsomethingā is interrupting the show and reflecting. Itās taking yourself off autopilot to ask yourself a super simple question: Is this who I want to be?
Our practice of being human evolves from playing, exploring, trying and REFLECTING. And before you exhaust yourself, you can pop the notion of practice makes perfect in the šļø
Some days weāll fall short, some days weāll hold our heads high. The trick is to keep showing up, creating your own feedback loop and finding the space to listen in. What does reflecting look like:
āSetting questions to lift the heart rate (I didnāt say this was easy)āāØ
- Is this who I want to be?
- How do I want to feel?
- What no longer serves me?
- What do I want?
- What do I need?
- Whatās important to me?
- What change do I want to see?
Thenā¦
š£ļøTalk: Coach, therapist, friend, partner, parents, dog⦠get those words out and FEEL them
āļøWrite: Journaling, itās extraordinary what comes out when you put pen to page
šMove: Connect to your body, it knows you better than you know yourself
šŖSit: Stillness, space, breathe and quiet
šØCreate: Expression, whatever your creative outlet may be
šEvery day you have a choice. Every day you have the ability to decide how youāre going to show up. Every day you get a chance to create change.
A few things to get comfortable with:
š«£Discomfort: Pushing your boundaries and playing in the unknown isnāt supposed to be comfy
š«£Feel it all : Being human doesnāt mean feeling happy all the time, it means feeling ALL the emotions, sitting with them and letting them guide you
š«£Sitting still: Just for 10 minutes allow yourself to connect with what you know
š«£Failing: Reframe failure, itās the only way to live fully, without it, youāre stuck
š«£Letting go: Of things, ideas, people, beliefs that no longer fit in with your practice
š“Not everyone is practicing. Some are just existing. Donāt just exist.

š„Ŗ GRAB YOUR SARNEYSš„Ŗ
.

.
This is coaching. The scenic route. The path untrodden. The exploration of the nooks and crannyās of lifeās more stagnant waters. Not a straight line in sight. No speeding through. Often seen as the slower path from A>B, yet so much richer in its contents.
This beautiful squiggly wiggle encourages you to leave judgement, outdated beliefs and scepticism at the station and urges you to pack playfulness, curiosity and trust in abundance.
Often, clients come to me with what they think is their greatest desire or challenge and only as we make these meaningful pitstops along the way, absorbing the view and playing in the scenary, are they really able to decide on the destination.
I love not knowing where a conversation is going to go. It never fails to amaze me, the power of staying unrelentingly curious and giving space to help people shape their worlds.
So, pack some sarneys (ham & hummus for me) and pop on your comfiest boots, letās set off on one of lifeās greatest adventures, destination unknown.

Iām about 90% chocolate and that is A OK, Iāve put the self loathing monster to bed.
.
.
Bank Holiday weekends throw us out of sync, just enough time to unplug from the working matrix, but not quite enough time to fully immersive ourselves in holiday vibes. This time of year is a little discombobulating. The temptation for gluttony is everywhere, the clocks have changed (let there be light), the sun is shining (ok, well nearly shining) and spring time work flow is in full force.
.
.
.
As you tuck back into the workstation and remind yourself of what you do and how to type, take a few secs to reflect and be purposeful in your direction.
.
.
Has your self judgement monster gone rabid?
Are you moving ferociously fast into your busy period?
Are you setting yourself up for success?
How are you actually feeling? As in ACTUALLY feeling?
.
Whatever your answers are, what will you do with those insights?
.
.
.
You may have had a frantic weekend or a super chilled session, either way, the gear shift back to work can be jarring. Take control of what you can and remember you can set the flow, you can set the pace, you can make the change.

š¶ An absolute BANGER from 2002 š¶
Beverley Knight telling us how it is - if the words get stuck in your head today then my work is done š May they be a reminder for you to pull yourself out of the rumination station.
šļø These three words waste an extraordinary amount of your time and energy. Isnāt it glorious being a human? We spend 70% of our time focusing on negative thoughts, feelings and emotions - nothing sucks you under as hard and fast as hypothesising what you should have done, what you would do differently or what could have been.
š Donāt let the b**stards pull you under.
š«£ Hereās whatās happening when you dwell on those words, youāre tormenting yourself, blocking brilliant things from happening - youāre feeding a spiral of doubt, shame, resentment, embarrassment and a whole other melting pot of emotions. Most likely talking to yourself in a way you wouldnāt dream of speaking to anyone else.
If you find yourself saying āshouldā a lot, perhaps reflect on the below:
š¤Where did you get the idea that you āshouldā do something?
š¤Who is that āshouldā for?
š¤What serves YOU best in this āshouldā situation?
š As for the trip down to shouldawouldacouldasville⦠STOP tormenting yourself.
āļø Swap Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda for a handful of beautiful lessons which help you become more decisive, true to what you want and accepting of your humanness.
You cannot go backwards. Only forwards.
āļø Free up some space for the wonderful things happening RIGHT NOW, things within your control and letās show Beverley what weāre made of.

šØOne of my favourite prints from @realhackneydave hanging proudly on the wall. A daily reminder to put in the work and make my own luck.

š¤Why do we cross our fingers?š¤

Crossing fingers dates to a pre-Christianity belief in Western Europe in the powerful symbolism of a cross. The intersection was thought to mark a concentration of good spirits and served to anchor a wish until it could come true. History lesson over!

Are you:

š«£Sitting in hope but not taking action?
š«£Waiting for Sunday lunch to break the wishbone?
š«£Relying on the lottery win?
š«£Assuming someone else will fix things for you?
š«£Keeping everything crossed without making changes?

šAssumptionsš
.
.
.
How many assumptions have you made this week? How much of your world is built on the words āI thinkā?
How are those assumptions making you feel?
How are those assumptions hindering performance?
.
.
Wouldnāt it be SO much better if you just knew?
.
.
āI donāt think Iām doing a good jobā
āThat will never workā
āWe donāt have time for thatā
āI canāt do that because theyāre too busyā
āI think this is the priorityā
āIāve done something wrong, theyāre being off with meā
āSomeone else is looking into thatā

šCURIOSITYš

1. Check, is this fact or is this assumption
2. If assumption, lean in and ASK
3. Understand where and why youāre defaulting to assumptions
