AAPI and Asian artists, like Yeesookyung, have continually used ceramics to bridge the gap between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary narratives. Considering views on value, preservation, and beauty, her [Translated Vases] series focuses on the reinvention of discarded ceramics.
Rather than “fixing or mending” a single broken object, Yeesookyung joins together multiple unrelated fragments to construct new sculptures. By filling the cracks with 24k gold—a play on the Korean homonym geum, which means both “crack” and “gold”—she celebrates the unique fragility of each imperfect form, reflecting her heritage, traditional East Asian art, and a modern exchange of ideas and techniques.
Have you seen [Translated Vase] in person yet? Stop by the Museum and let us know your favorite detail in the comments!

Our florals are pretty groundbreaking 🌸
The gardens are in their moment right now, with fresh blooms, color around every corner, and that unmistakable feeling of spring in full swing. We think Miranda Priestly would definitely approve.
Come see what’s blooming 🌿
Japanese sculptor Takashi Soga is globally recognized for his monumental sculptures that challenge spatial relationships. Soga’s work, such as [Sea of the Ear Rings], centers on the kinetic concepts of balance and gravity – like artists such as George Rickey and Alexander Calder.
Living and working in Utica, NY, he explains that the title refers to the inner ear's role in sensing balance, and by "controlling" gravity through art, he can create an "unordinary space" for the viewer to encounter.
Come experience the gravity-defying work for yourself in the Weaver Community Sculpture Garden at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens.

Thank you @dhdeegan for visiting the Museum at our recent Arts for All Festival, where children with differing abilities were able to enjoy art, gardens, and music experiences in an uplifting environment.
Mayor Deegan jumped right in, reading a story to children in the gallery, planting flowers in the gardens, and spreading the positivity this festival is known for!
