BREAKING: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a condition affecting more than 170 million people worldwide, has been officially renamed Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) following a landmark global consensus study published today in The Lancet.
#CUAnschutz expert Melanie Cree, MD, PhD, one of only two U.S.-based pediatric endocrinologists involved in this international effort, says the change is about finally recognizing the full reality of what patients experience—a complex, multisystem condition.

For years, Grace Hamilton searched for answers as symptoms that disrupted her childhood went undiagnosed. After finally receiving a diagnosis, she joined a GLP-1 clinical trial at #CUAnschutz that helped regulate her hormones, improve her insulin resistance and bring her symptoms under control for the first time.
Hamilton’s experience reflects how research on our campus is advancing care for a condition that affects millions. Now known as polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), the newly renamed disease underscores its full-body complexity and the need for better diagnosis and treatment.

For many cancer patients, food can suddenly taste very different during treatment—new #CUAnschutz research helps explain why.
Our scientists found that some targeted cancer drugs can shift how taste buds work, reducing sweet taste and increasing bitter and savory flavors. That imbalance may make food taste unpleasant for many patients, affecting appetite, nutrition and quality of life.

At 40, Ian Lancaster thought his constant cough was just part of working in construction. It wasn’t until his fiancée noticed his breathing from across the gym that he decided to get checked.
He was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer that had already spread to his brain.
After chemotherapy and radiation, Ian’s care team introduced him to a clinical trial using immunotherapy. Since starting treatment in 2023, his cancer has remained under control, something that is rare with this aggressive disease.
Now, that time looks like nights at home, time together and plans that once felt uncertain.

At #CUAnschutz, the Division of Transplant Surgery has reached another major milestone: 10,000 transplant surgeries performed since the 1980s. The impressive total breaks down to 5,000 kidneys, 3,000 livers, 1,000 lungs and 1,000 hearts — and a corresponding number of patients’ lives saved or prolonged. 🖤
April is National #DonateLife Month, and a great reminder that behind every transplant is a selfless donor who makes these second chances possible.
