Yesterday, seven deaconess students received their placements in chapel. We keep these women in our prayers as they prepare to serve the church, showing Christ’s mercy to those in need. Visit the link in our bio for a list of students and their placements and keep an eye out for an album of photos from yesterday's events celebrating our newly placed deaconesses!

The Seminary Women’s Assembly (SWA) gathered last night to say farewell and offer prayers and good wishes for the women who will be departing soon for the congregations their husbands will be serving. Those who are leaving received gifts from the SWA and the CTSFW Seminary Guild and had an opportunity to say a few words about their time at CTSFW and where they're heading next.

Join us on Saturday, May 16, at 11 a.m. in Luther Hall to hear from Dr. Päivi Räsänen. Dr. Räsänen is a medical doctor and member of the Finnish Parliament who was recently found guilty of “agitation against a minority group” by the Finnish Supreme Court for her published views on marriage and sexuality, which conform to biblical teaching. This weekend, Dr. Ryan Tietz, Dean of Students, took a group of students on a guided tour of the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures at the University of Chicago. They walked through the archaeology of the Old Testament, seeing artifacts from the patriarchs, Egyptian Captivity, Assyrian Invasion, Babylonian Exile, and Persian Period Return. Dr. Tietz says, “Seeing artifacts like this really brings the Old Testament to life.”

Yesterday, Dr. Arthur Just Jr., professor of Exegetical Theology, reflected on his new theological memoir, Ever to Emmaus (Wipf and Stock, 2026), during a campus convocation. Before the presentation started, Dr. Charles Gieschen, provost, surprised Dr. Just with a festschrift in his honor, entitled He Opened to Us the Scriptures: Essays in Honor of Arthur A. Just Jr. (CPH, forthcoming). The festschrift celebrates Dr. Just’s lifetime of service to the church.
