The Process.
I was on MidJourney trying to keep learning how it works. One idea I always find myself going to is astronauts exploring space, exploring alien planets, just floating everywhere lol. I ended up with the concept of a chimp heading to space and wanted to find a way to tell a story with it.
I found out about the Mercury-Atlas 5 mission where they sent a chimp named Enos into space and he became the first chimp to orbit Earth. So then I added some details to reference the mission and found audio recordings from the launch to include in the video.
I created two images, the chimp astronaut and the window so that it’ll be easier to animate them separately. (Do we say “created” when we talk about AI art?). In photoshop a separated the foreground/background, used Generative Fill to remove the chimp from the background, created a texture for the window glass.
Imported the Photoshop file into After Effects and added some rotation and position wiggle expressions to give the illusion from the rockets shaking the shuttle. I added some green screen videos of falling dust and moving smoke to give the effect of the shuttle flying up. Then a imported a photo of clouds, masked out cloud shapes and animated position do that they fall quickly. I separated layers in 3D space and added a camera for a zoom in.
Sound design was done in Premiere Pro using sound effects of strong wind, shuttle launch, radio communications from MA-5, random metal shaking, and some Alabama Shake “Sound & Color”.
If you read all this shit, thanks for checking it out lol 💪🏽.
