Galway City Council has introduced a ban on the tradition of âkicking the wallâ at the top of Salthill Promenade.
The ban notice reads: âPursuant to the directives issued by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) and in alignment with the concerns raised by the Stone Masons Association of Ireland, the act of kicking the wall is hereby strictly prohibited. This measure is instituted immediately due to significant health and safety risks identified.
âA comprehensive survey is slated for initiation subsequent to the formal tender process for the appointment of a qualified pyramid block layer. This action is a critical step in addressing the underlying concerns that have necessitated this prohibition.
For detailed information regarding the HSAâs report and the specific plans for the tender process, interested parties are directed to access the official website at galwaycity.ie/promenadewall/kickingconcern.
âAll individuals are required to adhere to this notice and refrain from engaging in any actions that contravene this prohibition. Compliance with these directives is mandatory to ensure the collective Health and Safety of the community.
âYour assistance is appreciated. Galway City Council, dated 1/04/24.â
Spare a thought for crews from ESB Networks, Galway City and County Councils and the emergency services tonight who are out in very challenging and often dangerous conditions.
