@ctobinvox & @philrobsonguitar will be playing at #frankandmarks on Weds 15 April, Iffley Church Hall, Oxford. Christine Tobin Voice, Phil Robson Guitar, Frank Harrison Piano, Mark Hodgson Bass Dublin born Christine has been an integral part of both the New York and London scenes for many years. Her style, although rooted in jazz, is eclectic and draws on a broad range of influences. MOJO Music Magazine said of her “Christine Tobin really transcends glib genre-fication. Her expressive range acknowledges finely acquired folk, jazz and 20th-century classical influences, which already sets her apart. And everything is shot through with an unmistakable refinement, free-spirited earthiness and giddy romanticism. This singer-songwriter is in a field of one.” She has worked with some of the greatest musicians on the scene today including Ingrid Jensen, Steve Wilson, James Genus, Dayna Stephens, Billy Drummond, Jed Levy and Craig Handy. She has played at iconic NYC venues such as Birdland, The Jazz Standard and Mezzrow, as well as in concert halls, clubs and international festivals around the world. Tickets from 8:00 PM (doors 7:30 PM) Iffley Church Hall, Oxford £20 (Full price) £16 (Early bird) #oxford #livemusic #vocalist #singersongwriter

Also really excited to bring my work 'Pseudologia Fantastica' to the @findingavoiceclonmel Music Festival as part of the 'Ban Bam' concert in conjunction with @improvisedmusic . I'll be playing with @kateshortt_cello & @philrobsonguitar Sunday, March 8, 2026, 1:00 pm Main Guard, Clonmel €15/€10 "A play on 'bean' (the Irish word for 'woman'), BAN BAM is an initiative by the Improvised Music Company to support and develop the work of women and gender-minority artists in jazz and improvised music. book now Composers Joanna Mattrey and Christine Tobin, are the recipients of the 2025 BAN BAM commissioning and development award from Improvised Music Company. With themes of conflict, loss of home and cultural identity, Joanna Mattrey’s Battle Ready II asks that the performers play for those who have no voice. The work includes composition, improvisation, spoken text and video, and features a central quartet of saxophone, violin, synths, and Mattrey on viola, creating a powerful live experience. Christine Tobin’s Pseudologia Fantastica explores themes of disinformation, and the misappropriation of new technologies and information networks to spread lies that destroy democratic conversation, undermining our perceptions of the world. In the history of communication, we have never been so connected—yet we often find ourselves divided, mistrustful and weighed down by dark uncertainty about the future. Presented by composer and singer Tobin accompanied by cellist Kate Shortt and guitarist Phil Robson, the piece includes spoken word and song, as well as live electronics, pre-recorded soundscapes, sonic improvisation and hand percussion, against a backdrop of visual images, marking a new direction for this artist." #findingavoicefestival #clonmel #BanBam

I'm really looking forward to performing my work Pseudologia Fantastica at the #brilliantcornersfestival , Belfast on 5 March, 8pm with @kateshortt_cello & @philrobsonguitar as part of the 'Ban Bam' evening in conjunction with Improvised Music Company and Moving On Music. Hope you'll join us! @accidentaltheatre 8pm. "BAN BAM is a music project from Improvised Music Company (Dublin) which began in 2017 to support and develop the work of women and gender minority jazz and improvised music artists. For this edition, we welcome projects from Joanna Mattrey and Christine Tobin. Christine Tobin’s new work Pseudologia Fantastica explores themes of disinformation – the misappropriation of new technologies and information networks to spread lies that destroy democratic conversation and undermine perceptions of the world. In the history of communication, we have never been so connected, yet we often find ourselves divided, mistrustful and weighed down by dark uncertainty about the future. Presented by Tobin with accompaniment by cellist Kate Shortt and guitarist Phil Robson, the piece includes spoken word and song, live electronic fx, pre-recorded soundscapes & compositions by Tobin, as well as sonic improv and hand percussion, marking a new direction for this artist. (approx. 25-30min) With themes of conflict, loss of home and cultural identity, Joanna Mattrey’s piece Battle Ready II tasks the performers to play for those who have no voice. The work includes composition, improvisation, spoken text, and video. The quartet of saxophone, violin, viola, and electric guitar, featuring Joanna Mattrey, Nick Roth, Larissa O’Grady and Barry O’Halpin draw on the musicians’ fluency in improvisation and notated music, oscillating between coordinated written events and sweeping improvised textures and gestures, to create a powerful live experience. (approx. 25-30min) We are delighted to welcome the BAN BAM artists to Brilliant Corners as part of our monthly experimental music series Handmade Music. Space is limited, so book early! #belfast #banbam #IMC
