What is “The Trials”?
The CTFL X NB Trials is a national high school track & field meet, aiming to propel the sport forward in Canada. What is the CTFL👇🏼
The CTFL’s mission is to enrich the fan experience and give financial support for athletes, facilitating brand development.
League Structure
Comprising four teams, each featuring 60 Core Athletes and an additional 10 Utility Athletes, the CTFL adopts a structured approach: Athletes enter a draft pool, and teams select athletes based on how they see fit and best for the team.
Disciplines Offered
The CTFL currently offers ten events, including 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, Sprint Hurdles, 400m hurdles, Shot Put, and Long Jump.
League Calendar
A total of six meets, comprising five preliminary events and a championship, are scheduled. Attendees can witness the action firsthand at the championship, with all meets recorded and broadcasted on YouTube for a broader audience.
Draft Process
Athletes meeting the CTFL’s 2024 standards, registered with provincial track and field organizations, are eligible for the draft. Registration opens on January 1st, 2024.
Points System
The CTFL introduces a point system, differentiating between Core Athletes and Utility Athletes. Core Athletes earn points based on individual performances, while Utility Athletes accrue points through IAAF scoring tables.
Cash Prizes and Career Development
Success within the CTFL translates into tangible rewards, with cash prizes for top performers and the winning team. This initiative not only establishes a league but contributes to the career development of athletes.
Standards and Eligibility
Eligibility criteria necessitate athletes meeting 2024 standards and being registered with provincial track and field organizations. Utility Athletes must additionally have ranked within the top 25 in their event during the 2023 outdoor season.
Future Expansion
The CTFL is poised for growth, with plans to introduce more events in subsequent seasons. Anticipate an evolving and increasingly compelling CTFL experience.
