For this week’s #CSULBAlumniFeatureFriday, we’re excited to spotlight Miki Fukusumi ’13, ’16 — a passionate leader transforming lives through pediatric speech therapy! As Director at NAPA Center Inc. and a former Adjunct Lecturer at Cal State Long Beach, Miki empowers children with complex neuromotor disabilities to find their voices and thrive. Through her expertise in augmentative and alternative communication, dysphagia, and motor speech disorders, she’s making a lasting impact every day.

Dreams Made Here ✨: When Roger Fouts ’64 arrived at The Beach, he wanted to help autistic children who struggled to communicate. A sudden turn, however, steered him from psychology to primatology. He was the first to teach American Sign Language to a chimpanzee and served as a leading critic of great ape research.
Reflecting on what he would tell students today, he said to keep your mind, but most important, keep your heart.

Kristin Beblawi '26, a dedicated Liberal Studies major and President’s Scholar from Monrovia, California, has embraced every opportunity during her time at CSULB. From studying abroad in Ireland to actively engaging in campus life, she’s grown into a future educator driven by a powerful mission: to inspire and make a lasting difference.
