Egzoz,
@e_g_z_o_z an international Turkish band, released their debut album titled “Smoking Jacket” on May 31, 2023. The album is now available on various streaming platforms, and a limited run of 300 clear smoke vinyl released as a 12” LP through Object Records.

Egzoz comprises vocalist Archie McKay (formerly of
@theyoungshaven , A Tension, and Erase Errata), guitarist and vocalist Chris Sollars (of $ollar$ and Skullture), and drummer and vocalist Erdem EroÄźlu (of The Young Shaven). The band formed in the Fall of 2021 during Sollars residency at
@gate.27 and gained recognition through live shows in Istanbul. In November of that year, they recorded the album
@northistanbul . The album was mixed by
@king_riff of Discount Mirrors LA & Chris Sollars, mastered by Carl Saff, and pressed by PROF SNY in Czech.
“Smoking Jacket” is a collage cut from flange and feedback guitar, explosive drumming, and a variation of spit and soft vocals that outline a city of excess and dearth. 12 songs that take listeners on a narrative journey through the uncanny streets and backside bars of Beyoğlu. The album’s artwork prominently features a tailored smoking jacket made from a scanned and enlarged cigarette pack, designed by Sollars and documented by photographer Emre Başak.
The album is divided into two sides. Side 1, known as “Gündüz” (daytime), invites listeners to experience the heart of a ghost-filled city, malfunctioning lifts, self-aggrandizing phones, international etiquette, 18th-century toilet commodities during the day shift, hole-in-the-wall psyches, and the vices of wine in a bar. Side 2, “Gece” (nighttime), explores the end of cars, religious charlatans in the south of Turkey, gatherings that lead to disunity, 18th-century toilet commodities during the night shift, a SlightlyCatholic perspective on the disenfranchised, and a moment of respite/restraint in a smoking jacket.
