Motorcycles are beloved by me and I have a long history with them and photographing women motorcyclists. I published Chicks on Bikes, and Lean In, and documented 100 women riding across America to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first women to do so. I’ve ridden many miles and made many of my lifelong friends through motorcycling.
So when a friend gave me this print that she made at Cal Arts when Catherine Opie was her teacher, I knew I had to bring it to my studio and make it a part of my current art practice of painting and photography. So this is an unofficial collaboration with my friend Erika Jacardi, Cather Opie who worked on the print, and myself.
It’s the about the joy, the physicality, and magic that this machine has born.

This image of downtown Santa Ana is about the deep division of american politics that have led to immigration policies that sow fear and terrorize lives. The red and blue stripes become bars that keep people from freely moving about our streets and land. The stars are not shining lights but black empty spaces because it seems that America has lost its way and is no longer the land of promise, opportunity and sanctuary.
This is my piece for the RESIST! Show opening tonight at the She/They Gallery during the Santa Ana Art Walk tonight. This community has been deeply affected by the immigration raids.
