Community School District 10 is thrilled to welcome Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s “Soccer Streets” initiative to our neighborhood as car-free streets outside our schools transform into vibrant soccer pitches, art stations, and block parties ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup! This traveling series of field days directly reflects our commitment to Build Strong and Informed Family Partnerships by Building a Joyful, Student-Centered Learning Community where families, schools, and neighbors connect. Through these active, inclusive celebrations running from May 1 through June 26, we are practicing Collaborative Leadership and Advocacy—partnering with city leaders, and Chobani Yogurt Company to ensure our students are supported with active, engaging experiences that enrich their growth and unite our entire district.

We kicked off Bronx Week with a very special surprise! Superintendent Hernandez visited PS 159 as a guest reader in a 2nd grade classroom, sharing the story Luna Loves the Bronx with our students. This visit directly supports our commitment to Building Strong and Informed Family Partnerships. Advocacy through Literacy: Engaging students in active discussions about the “amazing sites” of the Bronx empowers them to become advocates for their own community.
The Math Ambassadors are back at District 10 for a full day of professional development! Today is all about building capacity through professional learning to improve our instructional practice. We are diving deep into the new Mathematical shifts to ensure high-quality instruction across all tiers. Together, we are driving excellence through high-quality instruction and a shared commitment to our students’ success!

P.S. 59 is proud to continue its partnership with Street Lab, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming New York City streets into welcoming spaces that strengthen neighborhoods, support families, and bring communities together.
Through the Open Streets initiative, students, families, and staff engage in outdoor learning, community events, family activities, wellness experiences, and collaborative gatherings designed to make public spaces safer, more accessible, and more joyful for everyone.
From outdoor classroom instruction and communal lunches to family festivals, safety days, and community produce markets, this partnership reflects a shared commitment to creating meaningful experiences that extend learning beyond the classroom walls.
