— CĂ©drine Scheidig has developed a photographic practice that lies at the intersection of documentary and poetic investigation. Contrary to representations of the Caribbean as deserted beaches and flourishing exotic nature, her focus is on urban practices and the forms of resistance they produce. Based on the idea of associative language, which is very present in the rhizomatic thinking of Caribbean poet and philosopher Edouard Glissant, she explores the complex dimensions of contemporary Caribbean identity through subtle but significant “rhizomatic” connections between different territories and young people who recognize each other despite their geographical dispersion. Between Fort-de-France, Paris, and London, her photographs address insularity, migration, urban culture, youth, and the imaginaries that emerge from uprooting. — đŸ“· 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,9,10,11,13,14,15 : © CĂ©drine Scheidig 8 : © Salut Au Monde! 12 : © Tadzio 16 : © Laura Lafon Cadilhac

Meet CĂ©drine Scheidig, one of the featured artists in Tidal Imprints, opening Thursday, September 11, 2025, at The Suite at ECCHO, Baha Mar. Curated by Amanda Coulson, former Executive Director of the NAGB and founding director of Tern Gallery, this exhibition creates a dialogue between two powerful photographic practices. CĂ©drine Scheidig is a French-Caribbean photographer based in Paris whose work reflects on the poetics and politics of diasporic life. Growing up in the suburban outskirts of Paris, she explores Black geographies across the Caribbean and former colonial centers, weaving narratives rooted in her dual heritage. Scheidig’s work has been exhibited internationally, including at Maison EuropĂ©enne de la Photographie (Paris) and Fotografia Europea Festival (Italy), and recognized by the British Journal of Photography’s “Ones to Watch”. She is the recipient of the Dior Photography & Visual Arts Award for Young Talents (2021) and the PhMuseum Women Photographers Grant (2023). Experience CĂ©drine’s perspective and be part of this conversation on identity and cultural memory.
