It was such an amazing experience to perform with ‘Light of the World’. It felt quite surreal being on stage with a band whose music played such a big role in my youth (disco club) days🙂
I recently played at the Wallingford Winter Blues and Jazz festival with my African quartet, plus our special guest Kora master Modou Ndiaye. It was an honour to headline the Saturday programme at this amazing festival. A big thanks to all the festival team and the crew at the Corn Exchange. Also thank you to Andy Boyd for capturing our performance. Here’s a short clip🙂
Really looking forward to this. My band will be celebrating Christmas with a High-life dance party! Plenty of mince pies and Mulled wine too. Hope to see you there 🎅🏾🙂
We had Chris and his African Jazz Quartet at the Curzon last season and they were so brilliant people asked us to have them back, so we have done just that.
This is the perfect film + music pairing, Chris’ afrobeat inspired Jazz outside the Oak Room before a screening of Finding Fela a documentary on the amazing life of Fela Kuti a musical legend the godfather of Afrobeat.

Screening of Finding Fela + LIVE music performance from Chris Cobbson's African Jazz Quartet - it's a real music-lovers night out.
The film: Set to the insistent groove of Nigerian superstar Fela Kuti’s revolutionary Afrobeat sound, the remarkable story of one man’s courageous stand against a corrupt and dictatorial government gives testament to the transformative power of music as a force for social and political change. Fela’s passion for his music and epic crusade for his country’s future galvanized a generation of Africans and stand as an example of the transcendent power of creativity. The documentary is a tribute to every artist who has ever dedicated their imagination and personal charisma to unify, educate and motivate the world.
The music: Chris ‘Santo’ Cobbson has played with the greats; Maceo Parker, Courtney Pine, Ronnie Scott’s Big Band + more. His quartet wowed us last season and we vowed to get him back for a set filled with infectious music, great percussion breaks and dance rhythms.

Long way to go for one gig, but at least there wasn’t any traffic!🤣 Really looking forward to headlining the Cayenne Jazz fest this evening with the might Courtney Pine.
