SsingSsing (Hangul: 씽씽) was a South Korean band that fused Korean folk music with genres including glam rock, disco, and psychedelic rock. The band formed in 2010, and gained international attention in 2017 after performing on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts and at Globalfest at Webster Hall. The band’s six members include traditional singer Lee Hee-moon and music director Jang Young-gyu. SsingSsing ended in October, 2018 and Lee Hee-moon has said “But it is a project band that has disbanded. I loved being a part of it, but as of now, I do not have a plan to do it again.” . Loved the atmosphere and nostalgia in this piece by mr.melville. There’s something timeless about this aesthetic — the music, the colors, the slow movement of the city at night. Somewhere between late-night cruising, old speakers, faded summers, and records playing too loud from an open car window. Feels less like nostalgia and more like entering another state of mind. #westcoast #gfunk #90saesthetic #visualart

Ethiopia, 1976. 🇪🇹 “Tizita” by Tilaye Gebre & The Dahlak Band — one of the most soulful sounds to emerge from the golden era of Ethiopian music. A mix of jazz, funk, traditional Ethiopian scales, and deep nostalgia, “Tizita” became more than a song — it became a feeling. The word itself roughly translates to “memory” or “longing,” carrying emotion through melody in a way few genres can. From Addis Ababa’s vibrant musical explosion of the 70s, this sound traveled across generations and borders, influencing musicians, collectors, DJs, and listeners around the world. A timeless piece from a city once overflowing with orchestras, nightlife, poetry, and experimentation. 🎷 Tilaye Gebre & The Dahlak Band 🎵 “Tizita” (1976) #ethiopia #ethiopianmusic #tizita #jazz #africanjazz worldmusic musicdiscovery vinylculture musicarchive afrobeat africanmusic soundsoftheworld musichistory artefact auch crate digging psychedelicmusic musicreels

Exploring the Mystique of the Kumpo Spirit Dance ✨ The Kumpo dance is a sacred, high-energy masquerade tradition of the Jola (Diola) people in Senegal and The Gambia, symbolizing protection, unity, and ancestral connection. A performer concealed under a thick, cone-shaped costume of dried palm leaves (raffia) performs fast, spinning movements using a stick on top of their head to create a “whirling” effect, often to the sound of drums and metal bells.
