interrupta is a zine about grief. About the times we begin to understand what it means to lose someone, the weight of their absence, and the unfathomable nature of separation.
interrupta is the first issue in our A4 series, a format that brings together four texts. In this case, one written by each of us, alongside a collective poem.
This edition was inspired by the open call from Crying Together, a weekend of performances, conversations, dance, song, poetry, and installations at Rocking Squat. We’re grateful to have been part of it and extend our most sincere thank you to the organizers. 💧🥀🍂💐🧚🏻

Ça tombe bien la cantine cherche 8 personnes pour concocter le repas communautaire de samedi soir ! <3 Bonne ambiance et entrée gratuite pour le week-end. Envoie nous un DM pour recevoir le lien d’inscription !
Tombes dans la cathédrale Sainte Gudule et l’Eglise du Béguinage. Sous ces tombes, reposent des béguines. Qui sont elles ?
Les béguines… c’étaient des femmes chrétiennes du Moyen Âge (XIIᵉ siècle) qui vivaient par choix ensemble dans des béguinages sans les prêtres. Elles construisaient leur propre communauté , composées de petites maisons autour d’une chapelle. C’est une culture qui s’est développée surtout en Europe du Nord -> La Belgique a compté 300 béguinages !
Les béguines prononçaient leur vœux seulement pour un an , étaient libres de partir quand elles le voulaient, avaient leur indépendance économique et spirituelle. Elles priaient, travaillaient, et développaient une mystique très personnelle. :3
Cette autonomie a dérangé l’Église : trop libres, trop savantes, trop peu contrôlables… Résultat : soupçons d’hérésie, persécutions, et le mouvement a été peu à peu étouffé.
La dernière béguine est morte en 2013 🫂 Leur héritage reste une figure puissante de spiritualité libre et d’émancipation et si on cherche bien dans les archives, on peux trouver leurs histoires ou… croiser un de leur fantôme ? 🤫

Spanish is my mother tongue. It’s the language that codes the deepest of my emotions -from the heartfelt “hijo de PUTA” that I cry out whenever I stub my pinky toe, to emotions that run diver deep within me. I’ve had the privilege of building many relationships in a variety of languages, so it was crucial to me that the text would be accessible to the wonderful people in my life whose mother tongue differs from mine -hence the bilingual edition. massive thanks to @lissettecmal for the translation ⭐️🫂
