Exposing yourself to intimacy is vulnerable and demands you to trust. Viciousness as a misleading development can make you doubt this trust. Stripped from their usual social and emotional context, intimacy is understood and explored as a fragile state and violence as a brutal force not as an act of aggression. As an installation all 7 films are running in a loop on 7 individual screens with headphones. This setting allows the audience to immerse themselves into a space and take time to explore each portrait in their own timing. TRAILER RELEASE!!! The trailer of PORTRAIT 1: Texture/Pressure/Friction is out now! PORTRAIT 1: TEXTURE / PRESSURE / FRICTION This film explores the interactions between raw materials and the body, between textures and sensations that emanate from it. Violence and intimacy are experienced as forces that provoke grinding, fragile, brutal and loaded sensations. The itching sound of plastic bags rubbing onto each other, skin compressed in between tires, floating balloons, these fragile and innocent images have a strong impact on our bodies. This portrait pulls us in an atmosphere where the dancers get exposed to certain materials that carry these confronting qualities within them. Rubber tires, dust, feathers and blown up trash bags - objects that appear harmless - create abrasive, fragile, and tension-filled encounters as the dancers navigate, endure, and imitate them. The performers navigate a finely tuned tension between brutality and fragility, articulating a choreographic language that is at once raw, controlled, and deeply embodied. What impressed the jury most is the performer’s capacity to sustain ambiguity: vulnerability is never passive, and viciousness never fully dominant. Instead, both coexist in a constantly shifting equilibrium, revealing a complex, layered physicality that resists simplification. The body carries the weight of memory, of environment, of lived experience and yet remains permeable, unstable and open. The relationship between the body and its urban (concrete) context further amplifies this tension, grounding the performance in a tactile sense of materiality while allowing moments of rupture and transcendence to emerge. This is a performance that does not seek resolution, but rather insists on presence, on staying with discomfort, contradiction, and transformation.
