#PlanetEarthIII — It’s wonderful to work with guys like @hayden.griffith and @nathanrichards who know stabilised cameras back to front and more than that, can figure out how to get it all on foot to a remote location. We wanted to get aerials that dramatise the imposing cliff faces all around and up close character shots of Marti moving towards the precarious divide between land and ocean. Raptor VV + Ronin RS3P with a dual operator controller and super compact glass was the setup we used. We had to be agile and ready for huge swell surge on the rock shelf, so a big Movi build seemed impractical and risky. The RS3 was definitely pushed to the limits with this kind of build, but we got there nonetheless! Photography thanks to @mattdunbarphoto @bbcearth #naturalhistoryunit

Planet Earth III - A Shotover F1 boat mount was always going to be crucial for the shots we had in mind. Sniping frames across rugged water, shooting down the line of the rugged Tasmanian ocean cliffs. With days before deadline the ocean gods finally smiled upon us, or perhaps they laughed. Five metres @ 17 seconds with 25 knots of cross shore wind. That’ll do, let’s dance. @AFA.film and @GuyDee arrived, we got the Raptor S35 and Canon zoom built in, rain spinner, 24V power, problems solved and good to go. The early morning dawned with heavy rain and mist and small swell, we picked off a few shots but knew the afternoon was when the magic would happen. After a few hours on land, we came back out through the bay and there was a whole different energy in the ocean. Serious open ocean swell lines marched in, exploding upwards from the cliffs and folding inside out on the Shipstern reef. Marti wore the biggest wave of the day on the head, we got a bunch of shots and made it back into the inlet after dark safe and sound. Thanks to all the team for making it happen!

@bbcearth #PlanetEarthIII premieres in the UK this Sunday night. We were lucky enough to shoot the opening sequence of the first episode, something I will be forever grateful to the team at the BBC NHU for trusting us with. With an epic team, we managed to overcome some wild logistical and conditional challenges to get what we needed in the middle of the Australian summer with a looming deadline. It’s an honour to be part of such a legendary and impactful production to say the least.

Tinkering with our Raptor and RS3 combo last week before a week shooting out in the field. Some improvements to be made on cable management here, but very happy with the results from this rig. We’ve got two Raptors for rental and our shoots now, so send us a message if you want to give one a run on the next project.
