Since 2014, Crossroads Fund’s Giving Projects have raised more than $1.29 million from over 1,700+ donors—engaging 209 committed Chicagoans who are now part of our growing Giving Project Alumni community. The Giving Project allows us to organize donors and build a foundation of support for movements. We’re so honored to work with them and build on the Giving Project model as a tool to empower Chicagoans committed to contributing to the ecosystem of grassroots organizing movements. -They have pledged to collectively raise $150,000 by making a meaningful contribution and donor-organizing their friends and family to pool their resources. -They have participated in workshops on racial capitalism facilitated by Crossroads Fund staff to engage in deep personal conversations on race and class. -The group ultimately practices participatory grantmaking supporting strategic, necessary, and underfunded social justice organizing work around the city. We write today with heavy hearts to share the sad news of the passing of our beloved friend and colleague, Michael Caga-anan Aguhar. Michael died unexpectedly on Friday, February 20th, after a sudden medical emergency. We are holding close to all who loved him, especially his partner, Irina, and their toddler, Zoya, whom Michael loved beyond measure. We are supporting Michael’s partner, Irina, as funeral arrangements are made and as we plan a celebration of Michael’s life later this spring. We will share more details as they become available. We have joined family and friends to establish a fundraising page to support Irina and Zoya as they navigate this profound loss and the long road of healing. 🖤 With love from all of us at Crossroads Fund, Read the complete message and how to support at: crossroadsfund.org/michael-caga-anan-aguhar/ or link in bio

The federal government has abandoned its commitments to small nonprofits across the country. Together the @flowersfordreamsfoundation and @crossroadsfund co-authored a research survey to see the initial impact to grassroots nonprofits in Chicago and the Midwest. Over 25% have already lost an essential grant in 2025 and 47% may need emergency funding to stay afloat. These are the orgs closest to the need, closest to our communities, and they need our help.
