Oakwood Cemetery Chapel ~ I’m honored to have had the opportunity to build this ofrenda for Día de Muertos. Thanks @jenoweth ! If you’re on the east side go check it out. It’ll be up through early November but don’t wait till the cempasúchil wilt! Oakwood Chapel 1601 Navasota St, Austin, TX 78702 Wed-Sun 12-5pm It was a lot of work and I have mad respect for all the creators of past and future ofrenda builders. Paper mache is quite labor intensive especially at this scale and if you have little experience as I do. On the other hand I felt my complete lack of experience when casting cement worked in my favor 😄along with much appreciated help from @alejandra.almuelle regarding texture of the skulls. I couldn’t have done any of this without the help of @davdunc2 who chauffeured me around tolerated boxes of cement everywhere and who helped install and made a tapete too (Mictlāntēcutli). Thanks also to @valeejmnz for taking me everywhere on our search for calaveras in Oaxaca ❤️ The tapetes are based on Mictlāntēcutli and Mictēcacihuātl. Thanks also to las mujeres hermosas de @espanol_interactivo espanol_interactivo for inspiration and instruction 🧡 and thank you Ananth, @seflorer and Hari for pulling all those petals! We were able to finish by closing time with your help! ✨✨✨This project was funded by the Emma S. Barrientos MACC.
