hii friends it’s been a minute 🐈 i made this piece for my lovely vsa big, Ann 😁🇻🇳 she was so sweet to let me take creative control of the project, since it was definitely a trust the process kind of moment😅😈
this is my first headpiece to be completed in a college dorm- not so different from my crochet-coping back in hs :’) now if you’ll excuse me, i have a response paper to get back to 😞 (some things never change)

“What is the most impactful thing that your family has given you?” - Asian/American Lit & Film final project
Like a blanket, Asian/American families can be safety nets for their children, continuing a long-held culture of respect and collectivism. They can also be stifling; younger generations face the burden of carrying on their family’s legacy. While Asian/American familial experiences undoubtedly vary, one constant remains: we are tied to our families by the blood in our veins.
This fiber art installation explores intergenerational Asian/American values. Its structure is a blanket that represents the influence of Asian/American families, and each constituent stitch is a vein that connects individuals to them— whether they like it or not. At the center lies the heart, in which both love and heartbreak are possible. The words on this sculpture were curated through a Google Form sent out to Andover’s Asian/American affinity spaces, including AWE (Asian Women Empowerment @aweandover ) and Asian Society (@asiansocietypa ). Responses ranged from “trauma” to “eric nam album”; the top 10 most popular comments are displayed on the piece.
