A video that explains a part of my process for the creation of my graduate collection „In Relationships“. This is both a digital and physical collection, made solely by upcycling second-hand clothing and thrown-away fabrics. Beyond the layers of sustainability and digitalisation there is an important message about human connection in an increasingly lonely world: each clothing piece is a tool to help people interact and reconnect with each other. . #upcycledfashiondesign #upcycling #clo3d #graduatecollection #sustainablefashion

Happy to present my favourite and most time consuming piece so far: The Puzzle Poncho. A poncho for three that is a game in itself (actually two games) for friends or family members to play and get the opportunity to bond and deepen their relationship. . 1. The poncho comes in a box, like a puzzle, with all the pieces disassembled and people have to assemble them by joining the snaps. Once completed, it can be worn on a cozy evening watching a movie wrapped in it together. 2. The poncho can be dismantled again for a new challenge: making abstract clothing by joining the snaps to create endless combinations of wearable shapes. “Who made the best outfit?” . A dress created for a variation on the guessing game of “Charades”, in which people team up to mime different words while others have to guess. The dress is designed to enhance the game by preventing the wearer from using her own hands - instead, her team player, who stands behind her, “replaces” her hands with his. His hand gestures have to match what the main wearer of the dress says and help her convey her message. The hood can be placed on the face of the person behind to hide him, so that only the wearer and the “foreign” hands are visible. . The material surface for this piece is created by enclosing small fabric offcuts between tulle layers and creating a double-sided colorful patchwork surface. . The Flower Offering Pullover is covered in detachable flowers which can be offered to ignite a conversation or to show appreciation. The piece comes with pre-attached flowers and a set of additional flowers that can replace the ones gifted. . The pullover is made by upcycling an existing sweater and manipulating the fabric’s surface. The technique used involves gathering straps of chiffon offcuts and sewing them intuitively over the existing pullover. The flowers are made from bedsheets of different colours. . The Intimacy Jacket is designed with a hood that can cover the heads of two people facing each other, to provide them with a moment of intimacy in a busy urban environment. The piece can be comfortably worn by a single person with the hood down or up. Its social function can be “activated” at need, by lifting the hood and enveloping a close person for kissing, secret-telling, or just for sitting in a safe space together. . The design is optimized for patchwork to allow the reuse of existing jeans trousers. . Part of my graduation collection „In Relationships“. . The “Tickle Me” Top is made to invite touch and physical interaction in an intimate situation. The small crevices built in the fabric’s surface have the circumference of a finger and a protruded outline, making it tempting to poke into them. Inside there is another layer of soft fabric which feels good to the touch for an external person and which, at the same time, protects the wearer from a too direct and intruding contact with the skin. The choice of velour knit for the outer layer and the red color of the openings create a strong visual style meant to arouse curiosity. . The top is made by upcycling a vintage bathrobe and rib knit offcuts. . Part of my graduation collection „In Relationships“. . The „Lean On Me“ Set provides an opportunity for physical closeness in different urban environments: the „Rest On My Shoulder“ Bomber invites leaning one‘s head while commuting or while in a plane, while the „Rest In My Lap“ Pants provides a comfortable place to lay one’s head down on when sitting on a bench or on the grass. . The bomber is fabricated by using material from two second-hand table cloths and a pair of oversized jeans. For the trousers was used another existing pair of pants, which was deconstructed and then reworked to hold the padding, proving that any pants can be upgraded into a „socially smart“ piece. . The “Hold Me” Sweater is a piece that invites and accommodates hugging and holding. It can help its wearer communicate their need for physical closeness in a playful way. . The design consists of a two-layered sweater with space for the hands of an external person to comfortably rest during four types of tender gestures: 1. various types of hugging; 2. holding the arm while walking; 3. wrapping one’s arms around the person; 4. a series of loops found in the front chest area can be used to pull the wearer closer for an embrace or kiss. . The sweater is fabricated by deconstructing and reconstructing two existing sweaters, while for the openings and trims leftover rib knit is used. . This year, while working on my Master Thesis, I researched the topic of loneliness and human connection. Based on this research I created a personal proposal for what I would call “a healthy social ecosystem around the individual” - a minimum number of different types of interactions that are needed for personal wellbeing. The collection “In Relationships” is an interpretation of this framework from a fashion design perspective, proposing the idea of fashion that can help us fulfill our need for social connection in a world increasingly disconnected. . #upcycling #sustainablefashion #nachhaltigemode #sustainable #upcycledfashion #upcyclingfashion #berlindesigner #berlinfashion #mastercollection #fashioncollection #graduationcollection #berlin #berlinberlin #berlinart #berlinartist

In a world that seems increasingly lonely for so many people, the collection “In relationships” raises awareness about the importance of prioritizing human connections in one’s life, by envisioning garments with embedded social functions. Each of the main pieces is created to encourage a particular type of interaction, from casual contacts with strangers, to intimate one-on-one interactions with friends & family or activities with one’s group in the community. By touching on all the different types of social contacts important in one’s life, the collection’s aim is to help the individual sustain a healthy “social ecosystem” around oneself. . The relationship dimension is reinforced by the choice of materials used: existing textiles with which someone already had a history. The collection is made from second-hand clothing, household textiles and leftover materials, exploring different upcycling techniques meant to prolong the lifespan of existing fabrics. .
