We moved to Athens Georgia the same month hurricane Katrina hit. Our university took in professors and students displaced by Katrina. Now 20 years later Netflix has a documentary on Katrina. It is worth watching. I had some idea but didn’t fully understand what it was like for so many at the time and beyond.
After Bob’s trip through the washer and dryer he was ready for another adventure, this time he took a skateboard ride downtown to the Capitol building. Good job Bob.
My 10 year old and I are enjoying reading this book together. It will make you appreciate modern medicine. The crazy things that went on well through the 1800’s will make you cringe…also the lack of bathrooms , egads. Makes one appreciate the advances we have made. Let’s continue these advances. No one should ever wipe their butt with a shared rope as they did in the sailing days of Christopher Columbus, and some people were in so much pain. Lead poisoning, gout, absence of antibiotics and vaccinations. This book speaks to the benefits of modern science and research.
Such a cool experience to have witnessed this process…artist Haiying Wu worked in our building the past year to create this sculpture of Billy Frank Jr. The large scale version will be in Washington DC and this smaller replica is currently at SPSCC but it will soon be on view in our state capital building. (Image to the right is the in progress shot of work in plasticine, later it was scanned and 3d printed as part of the mold making process.

Egads! Our town has a new candy store! I have so many mixed feelings about it, but look how colorful it is!😆 (edited to add-our winter break book is Bellyache: A Delicious Tale by Crystal Marcos. Pairs nicely with a trip to the candy store. 😀)
