The exhibition will be running until the 13th of October, and I’ll soon be back for a symposium with the University of Cumbria, to discuss the collaboration between artists and academics, and the beauty, challenges and processes of this journey, with my guide and collaborator, freshwater ecologist Dr. Gill Notman, and the other brilliant artists involved - Alistair Debling and Jamie Jenkinson @aadebling  and @jamie_jenkinson_  . Exactly two years after arriving in West Cumbria for the first time, I came back to show the result of this journey. A journey made of lonely long drives through the fells and hikes - equipment on my back - querrys, industrial and nuclear leftover, stormy boat rides. And water - springs, torrents, rivers, lakes, clouds and rain, and finally the sea; trying to capture what’s visible and what’s invisible with freshwater ecologist, Dr. Gill Notman. My latest video installation The Flow, funded by Arts Council England, Cumberland Council and nctm e l’arte, with support from the University of Cumbria and the Centre for National Parks and Protected Areas (CNPPA) will be shown at Florence Arts Centre from today until the 13th of October, along with the brilliant works created by @aadebling and @jamie_jenkinson_ . The exhibition is curated by Harriet Fraser and Rob Fraser of the PLACE Collective, an environmental artists’ collective based at CNPPA, the texts are by William Rees. Thanks to @diegoschiavo for the incredible sound design and to Simone Poleschi for the color grade. Hey 2022, you have been a sublime mess of new cities and new faces and hardcore shootings and new and oh-God so-not-new-projects. Stockholm- Kiruna - Paris - South Dakota - Indonesia - Copeland and many more; and Lucca and my family, always. I picked up oil painting (with very controversial outcomes) and I kept on going with films and video installations (hopefully with more encouraging results). I met people I want to remember, and people I don’t mind forgetting. And I’m writing all of this a little drunk, cause in my opinion there’s no other way to write a “end of the year” review…Sooo: to more places, people, love and films, art, wine, and LIFE. And most importantly, to care and empathy: we’re all in this together, so let’s try to be kind to one another. Have a great New Year ❤️
