With all the focus on varroa it's easy to forget the other pests. It is especially important to continue your small hive beetle controls as they will take weak colonies out very quickly. How's this church cloth? Thousands of trapped beetles in less than 3 weeks!

Mites and beetles. Seeing the infestation rates of both these pests increasing rapidly on the Gold Coast. All beekeepers should be preparing for serious challenges in the next few months. Get your varroa management sorted, have a plan of action. Get beetle number under control. Regularly inspect your hives.

Varroa mite reproduction interrupted. This is not a great sign. The colony needs some help.

Well, today is the day... mites have finally arrived at my home apiary. I'm not surprised, but it still feels like a bit of an unpleasant kick. I have been managing several apiaries with.mites since July, so this is "normal" now. It does feel like a game changer even though it shouldn't.
