Our successful applicants due to start in September are currently being matched to their placement schools. We work with a wide network of schools and experienced mentors to ensure that every trainee is supported in the best possible environment. We also recognise the importance of location and work hard to keep travel to a minimum.
Alongside this, our centrally located training centre in Birmingham makes in-person training and support easily accessible for trainees across the region.

"I’d like to create a calm, inclusive and engaging classroom where children feel confident to think, talk and explore ideas."
At CREC, we believe the best teachers are those who see themselves as co-researchers alongside children. This vision of a supportive environment—where purposeful dialogue and active participation are at the heart of the classroom - is exactly what our SCITT programme is designed to cultivate.
By training directly within a school environment, our course gives you the pedagogical tools to:
Use questioning to extend children's thinking.
Value prior knowledge to build deep understanding.
Foster a culture where children feel safe to take risks.
Turn your passion for inclusive education into a specialist career. Apply for SCITT at CREC today.

At the Centre for Research in Early Childhood (CREC), we are proud to publish our latest research exploring the experiences of young children from Armed Forces families and the professionals who support them across the UK.
Enabling Young Children from Armed Forces Families to Thrive: Evidence, Practice and Policy
This landmark study represents a significant milestone in our mission to improve outcomes for children in their earliest years. By providing a robust evidence base, this work directly informs the Thriving Lives Early Years Toolkit and marks a major step forward in establishing a coherent, evidence-led 0–25 approach to supporting Service children throughout their educational journey.
This research was commissioned by the Service Children’s Progression Alliance and delivered as part of the Thriving through Childhood and Beyond project, led by the Naval Children’s Charity. We are incredibly grateful to the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust for the generous support that made this work possible.
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the practitioners, families, researchers, and expert advisors whose contributions and insights were vital to the completion of this report.
Through this collaboration, we hope to ensure that every child from a military background has the opportunity to thrive from the very start of their lives.

Our final intensive training week of the year focused on adaptive teaching. Through seminar sessions, deliberate practice, and discussions we took the time to pause and reflect on our practice, enabling us to adapt and respond more effectively to the needs of every child. Through our community of practice, trainees are supported to reflect on their experiences, adapt their approaches, and continuously improve their practice whilst learning from each other.
