“Eyes On You” is an original 14-page digital collection of flash fiction short stories, images, and poems, focused on Black American women in contemporary history and my own experiences, weaving together true stories of Black women within fictionalized narratives. This was my final project for my Exploring Identity course this semester and it was complete until a few days ago when I was faced with micro-aggressive racism at an end of the semester event. This led to me revisiting this project and adding my own narrative to the piece, further exploring how the legacy of racism persists today.

Sooo last night I was a featured reader at @cca_writinglit first Hearsay Open Mic of the school year. This was the first time I’ve read my poetry in front of people since being in Trinidad with @ygbproud2beblack in 2018 and being on @youthspeaks Spokes in 2015-2016. I almost forgot how fun it is to share my art/poetry and I’ve been buzzing ever since. S/o Alyssa and Faith for encouraging me to read and s/o to my co-feature @poetryntings for being another hella dope Black woman resource on campus. i tell myself i don’t write poems anymore and then i look at my notes app… this post developed many times. i wrote this piece while i was getting myself out of a hard time. i wrote it for my younger self, current self, and future self. i wrote for my friends and loved ones. i wrote it for those we lost and who remain with us always. as i was looking through my camera role i found pictures of some homies who have transitioned from this life. i honor them here and thank them for the time they shared with us. they’ll stay with me & my homies til the rest of and i am grateful for their existence💗 Cynthia, Mo, Jordan, Ju, Blue Thank You for loving on me and my friends for however long you were able 🫂
last month i thrifted these shorts and decided i’d like them better if i painted them. a trip to michael’s and 10 hours later it was done🙂↕️🫡 i also decided to add sparkles while i was at the store on a vibe and i had no idea exactly how it would look (or how long it would take to place them one by one 🥲) but im happy with the outcome💙 lmk what you think!
