There were hella miracles and favor that I experienced on Juneteenth this year. One highlight was meeting Kenny at the @blackterminusar@juneteenthhack and telling him about the couch. Turns out Kenny is a reporter with CBS Bay Area and he was interested in doing a feature on my project.
So we kicked it for an afternoon in my studio and then took the couch to the streets. We were just replicating what I did last year... pulling up and talking to people. It was amazing.

Pt. 2. Inspiration led to experimentation and manifestation.
On road trip #2 (2024) I made it to a Black-owned cottom farm in North Carolina and connected with my brotha Julius of @blackcotton.us .
Like most encounters we had never met before but the connection was instant. One of our main convos was about collaboration for artist and building agroculture-based residencies. Goes to show God already had us on the path.
I cant wait to get back into cotton specific sculpture. Feel free to tag any artists below who are already in the practice. I need some inspiration!
And keep manifesting while doing the work. It works.

As we prepare for year 4 of the Watermelon Couch I'm revisiting the archives and sharing how it all started. First up- inspiration!
The first seed came about in 2020 at the Zona Maco Art fair. I saw a work of sculpture that spoke to my soul. It looked like furniture but was on a stand like sculpture. So dope. 🤯🤯🤯
Thank you to @angelricardorios for your amazing work. Your influence made it to Oakland, CA and led me creating the Watermelon Couch. I hope to connect woth you one day and learn about your work.
I hope this work inspires others to seek inspiration and imitate/create art that moves you. Not for accolades or a profit, but to find your path and develop your craft.

@creativeshields and I met back in 2011 and have been talking about collaborating on a mural ever since! Finally, in 2026 it happened!
When I got the call for a mural project at James Rutter Middle School the first person I told was James Shields and that is when he revealed that he is a former student of Rutter himself (I am not). This was the PERFECT opportunity for us to finally put our creative minds together to form something dope and Im sure this won’t be the last time we do this.
