Mark your calendars! Further information will follow soon!
📜 Many artists and workers in the cultural and creative sectors face precarious working conditions and struggle to make a living. Despite recommendations for fairer working conditions from the OMC and a call from the European Parliament for an EU Directive, concrete steps have yet to be taken at the European level. ⎯⎯
“Towards the Culture Compass: A Sector Blueprint” was developed collectively by over 30 European cultural networks as a complementary vision for cultural policy ahead of the publication of the European Commission’s #CultureCompass.
In the Sector Blueprint’s chapter, Working Conditions, a proposal for a Charter on Working Conditions is presented as a first step towards an EU Directive. The Charter would provide definitions for artists and workers in the CCS, outline best practices, and propose actions in accordance with Fair Pay, Fair Share, Fair System principles. The creation and implementation of the charter would be supported through a stakeholder consultation process, including through the creation of an Expert Working Group.
🧭 ...and what does the Commission’s Culture Compass for Europe propose?
‣ An EU Artists Charter outlining principles, guidance, and commitments for fair working conditions in the CCS, particularly for recipients of EU funding for culture.
‣ A high-level exchange to support the design of the EU Artists Charter.
‣ An EU structured dialogue with cultural and creative stakeholders.

#casestudy 🌱 Can hemp waste replace leather?
🔹This week we meet Revoltech, a German startup transforming agricultural waste into fully bio-based, biodegradable leather alternatives made from hemp and algae.
🔹By eliminating synthetic plastics and designing materials for circularity from the start, Revoltech is rethinking how fashion, automotive, and design industries approach sustainability. Their hemp-based material LOVR™ is already being tested in products ranging from watch straps to future car interiors.
🔹The project proves that waste materials, smart design, and long-term innovation can help build a more circular future for fashion and manufacturing.

📢 Out now: Equipping creators and creative professionals for the AI era.
With the series of Creative FLIP (CULTURE) POLICY ORIENTATIONS, we explore some of the main challenges in the European Union with the objective to better integrate culture (policy) in transformation areas.
💡 In the most recent Orientation Policy paper, our topic expert Sylvia Amann focuses on the role of transformational (cultural) policy making – in particular related to (new) skills and future jobs in the era of AI.

#casestudy 🤖 Can AI support sustainable making?
🔹In “AI for Upcycled Futures”, a collaboration between @ruralhackers and Atelier Luu, artists explored how AI can act as a creative partner rather than a threat. By digitally pre-visualising designs on garments before production, they reduced waste and enabled a “concept-to-order” model, producing pieces only once sold.
🔹The result? A new methodology that blends technology, sustainability, and craftsmanship, proving that when artists stay in control, AI can become a powerful tool for ecological and creative innovation.

#casestudy 🎬 How can a small animation studio turn local stories into a global success through IP?
🔹Cartoon Saloon (@cartoonsaloon ) grew from a student film project into a globally acclaimed animation studio by building its model around owning and managing intellectual property.
🔹Through a strategic mix of copyright, trademarks, and selective licensing, Cartoon Saloon demonstrates how IP can go beyond protection, becoming a powerful tool for sustainable growth, audience engagement, and long-term creative independence.
