Lowland streaked tenrecs are one of the many unique creatures we see around camp regularly. They’re bizarre and fascinating animals—but also pretty blind and easily startled on the trail.
That’s why this one is stomping his feet and rubbing his quills together as an intimidation display. Then it’s back to business hunting for grubs in the leaf litter. 🪱🍂

Despite often being called the “ring-tailed mongoose,” the vontsira isn’t actually a mongoose at all. Madagascar is home to an entire family of carnivores found nowhere else on Earth, and the #ringtailedvontsira is one of them 🇲🇬✨
Their striped tails also help them communicate with each other while moving through dense forest ♥️🖤🌿

Have you ever seen a Woolly Lemur? 🐒🌿
@masoalaforestlodge is home to a healthy population of Masoala Woolly Lemurs.
During the day, they pick a cozy spot around camp to nap. At night, they become active — leaping from tree to tree while feeding on leaves. They communicate with each other using long, high-pitched whistles that echo through the rainforest!🌙✨
There are at least 9 species of Woolly Lemurs and they are found only in Madagascar. 🇲🇬

It’s always an honor to cross paths with one of Madagascar’s elusive carnivores — the Fanaloka (#Fossafossana), often called the “Malagasy civet,” though it isn’t a true civet at all.
This handsome little hunter wandered through our campsite in Ranomafana National Park looking for scraps, then put on a show pouncing on frogs like a tiny fox. Madagascar never ceases to amaze me…
