I had my first international exhibition in Lacoste, France in 2014 and then London in 2015.
I had my first solo museum show in 2019 at the Appleton Museum of Art.
In 2024 I had my first Atlanta solo exhibition in Hapeville and at Westminister School. My next solo exhibition will be in Los Angeles at Sovern.la
And my next international exhibition will be a major milestone marker in my career at one of my dream museums. CAN YOU GUESS WHERE?
I am a disruptor. I wholeheartedly believe my work can inspire and provoke impact. As a daughter of immigrants and a lover of travel, my work has always been created through a global lens. So since I was a child I dreamed of seeing my work grace galleries, museums and even billboards across the globe knowing that my work could empower melanated people everywhere.
This is my journey, will you join me?

Sometimes I make objects you can touch ;)
I started playing with photo based installation post undergrad, and truly honed installation as a part of my practice while getting my MFA at the university of Michigan.
In grad school i took additional courses in school of education, museum studies, psychology and African American studies. I found that subversion and a bit of satire is my jam when designing artistic interactive experiences that aim to influence, teach and challenge status quos. Interaction, the ability to touch and move through and around the work is a paramount element to my work that I strengthened while formally working as a learning experience designer. Through interactive art installations I produce profound experiences that transforms my viewers to participants. I've had the honor of creating site specific installations across industries, from art galleries, to college classrooms, the sciences, Healthcare, film, and k-12 independent schools like Paideia.
My installations have taken form as textile sculptures, silicone sculptures, t-shirts, beauty products, tactile workshops, and even playground equipment.
Seesaw is my largest installation to date at 900 sq ft. It was originally commissioned by The Science Gallery Atlanta for the Justice exhibition in 2023. Are you looking for an interactive art experience? Cause I'm open for my next collaboration.

My name is Stephanie Brown and I'm a photographer.
I've always said that Photography is like my bones. Its truly the foundation of my artistic practice. My dad put a film camera in my toddler hands to keep me busy when we traveled to Jamaica. By 5th grade my eldest sister pointed out I had a natural gift for composition. In middle school I got my first digital camera and the rest is history.
Photo is where i learned to narrate stories and advocate for myself and others through my compositions. My "eye" is still my strongest gift to this day. Photo is where my identity as a conceptual artist was born. My photography manifests through my studio work, documentary work and even alternative printing to create photo based sculpture or installations.
I'm most known for my nude black and white photos which are inspired by photo-giants like Robert Mapplethorpe and Edward Weston.
For me light is a metaphor for spirit, creation, love, and power. I sculpt with Light both indoors and out. Light and shadow is the yin and yang in my photography, its how I see, its my drama, my forever muse, and co-author in all that I create. Light and Shadow, we need them to simply be.

Travel was always the goal.
I chose to complete my final semester of college abroad at SCAD Lacoste. I was graduating a whole year early with no loans. However I chose to invest in myself, and take out a small loan to do this semester abroad. It was my very first time in Europe and it quickly became a milestone experience in my life that affirmed my travel and photography career aspirations.
This decision planted the seed in my mind that life abroad could be possible if I just decide. I learned invaluable lessons of seeing myself and other people of color thrive in new cities that I assumed werenât possible. I learned to stop assuming. I learned how a slower pace and new environment could grant me a joy I didnât know I needed.
How have you invested in yourself? I wish for you to say yes to an opportunity with your heart and decide that it's going to be worth it, because you donât know what you donât know. The lesson is on the other side of giving yourself permission.

To kick off this week of new resident introductions, we are excited to begin with interdisciplinary artist Stephanie Brown.â
â
Stephanie Brown grew up in South Florida at the intersection of her Jamaican and Black American identities. Broadly her work is a reflection of her internal self/ancestral exploration. The work is a historical yet critical investigation of identity construction and implicit and explicit bias. Stephanie has dedicated much of her art practice to explore how people of color construct their identities within the greater context and confines of racial constructs, systematic racism, the concept of tradition, and the global phenomenon of colorism. In turn, she critically investigates the evolution, construction, and development of her own identity as a first-generation American.â
Stephanie holds a BFA in Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design and an MFA degree in Interdisciplinary Art and Museum Studies Certificate from the University of Michigan. She visually navigates the concepts in her work with photography, object making, creative writing, and interactive installation to create thought-provoking imagery and dialogue that ultimately challenge narratives in the world that inform who we choose to be as individuals.â
Stephanie identifies as an interdisciplinary artist interweaving mediums to narrate a greater contextual story rooted in historical research and familial narratives that aim to empower people of color to discover themselves and take control of who they choose to be and become. Her artistic practice and identity are fed by her experiences and mold the relationship she explores between the States, the Caribbean, and Africa. Stephanie intends for her work to guide disconnected identities floating on the ghost-trails of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade to a greater sense of honor, belonging, and home. â

Against popular opinion in my household (at the time) I DECIDED to go to the college of my dreams. Willing to do whatever I had to make it there.
What will you (or did you) DECIDE on?

The Summit will feature not only sessions on creative placemaking, but tours of actual projects in Memphis, a concert and lots of great networking!

A weekend of core memories with my sunshine.
Attended the closing of One Nation, New Symbols at The National Gallery of Jamaica. A milestone exhibition on my CV and core memory for my soul.
Collected my son's citizenship paperwork, confirming his dual citizenship. His birthright. Our birthright. Gratitude to our ancestors.
Plenty of walks in nature and good eats.
This was his last FREE international flight âď¸ before he turns 2 in May.
Gratitude to Jamaica for a healing weekend away.
Note: Not depicted is... crazy TSA lines, 4 potty accidents, using the potty on the plane adventures, and countless people looking at me with pitty eyes wondering how I managed a suitcase, carseat and stroller đ đđŤ
Nevertheless, worth it for the shared memories.
