The Schola mission is spreading. We just welcomed our first group of Duta Schola: 60 tertiary students, selected from 200+ applicants across 30+ universities and colleges in Malaysia. @schola.my began as a website because that was the fastest way we could get solid, industry-backed career info to students at scale. That’s still the foundation of what we do. What we’ve learned since is that the website is one part of the journey, not the whole journey. The info matters, and it works best when students also see real examples around them, and hear it from someone who’s just a few steps ahead. After 1.5 years of running Schola, we got curious: where are our early users now? Did this actually help when they were choosing courses, thinking about qualifications, or trying to make sense of what work even looks like? So we tried something. We put out a call for students who had encountered Schola earlier, and wanted to pay it forward as peer mentors in their own communities. We genuinely didn’t know if anyone would respond. But 200+ applied. We picked 60. Over the next year, our Duta Schola will host peer conversations, create content, and help make career exploration feel less lonely and more normal, especially in communities where guidance can feel missing or too abstract. A big congratulations to the Krishen Jit Fund (KJF) on its 20th anniversary! 🎉🎉 Established in 2006 to continue the pioneering spirit of the late Dato’ Krishen Jit, the KJF, supported by @astrokasih and @creadorfoundation , and administered by @fiveartscentre , has grown into a key pillar of Malaysia’s contemporary arts scene. Its core mission is to champion original Malaysian creativity in interdisciplinary, multicultural, and experimental forms. At the heart of the fund is a philosophy built on unconditional trust. This confidence in the artistic community is what has sustained it through two decades, proving that when you believe an idea, no matter how small or unconventional—is worth supporting, artists will not only create but thrive. Congratulations to the 2025 Krishen Jit Fund recipients! This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Fund, and we were very pleased to announce this year’s recipients are: 1) Nadira Ilana, for ‘Sumpah Batu Sumpah’ (working title), an experimental video art project on the Keningau Oath Stone. 2) Mohd Nur Faillul Bin Adam, for ‘Kamilah Penipu - Tapi Kami Tak Menipu’ (working title), a performance of 60 minutes of organized chaos – made of 60 one-minute units – built from the mouths of Malaysians. 3) Illya Sumanto And Wayang Women, for a female-centred Wayang Kulit Kelantan with a ghost folklore twist. 4) Adriana Nordin Manan, for ‘Kubu Seni’, a story lab and art incubator in Semporna, centering youth empowerment, the platforming of marginalised voices and celebration of local culture. 5) Ong Qiao Se, for ‘The Shape of an Almond’, a non-fiction film about a 90-year-old woman living with Alzheimer’s disease, and her last memories of pre- and post-Merdeka Malaysia. 6) Ho Chee Jen, for a project transposing gallery wall labels into public urban spaces. 7) Lee Yee Han, for ‘Discrimination and Visual Illusions’, a hybrid performance and exhibition exploring visual manipulation in a post-truth era. 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸-𝗔𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀? 𝗢𝗿 𝗜𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗱? 🌏 Entrepreneurship thrives on risk-taking, yet women are often labeled as risk-averse. But is this a built-in trait or a response to systemic barriers? At Creador Foundation, we went on the ground and interviewed women entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners from Gurugram, Jaipur, and Lucknow. We wanted to understand what holds them back, what drives them forward, and what support they need. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸-𝗔𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 Our study showed: 💰 𝟳𝟳% 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿. Many rely on male family members for financial decisions, limiting their independence. ⚖️ 𝗠𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻—𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗼. Social stigma and financial insecurity make failure costlier for women, discouraging them from taking loans or second chances. 📜 𝟵𝟳% 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲𝘀. Lack of awareness and complex bureaucracy keep them from crucial financial support. 📊 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸-𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀. They prioritize long-term stability but struggle with pricing and negotiations, often hesitating to raise prices or assert financial independence. 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 & 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 Women aren’t risk-averse—they’re calculated risk-takers in an unequal system. Our Malaysia team gathered for a year-end charcuterie board potluck, a first-time experience for many of us! 🧀🍇 Everyone brought their favourite cheese — Brie, Camembert, Gouda, Welsh cheddar, feta, Jalapeño Jack, and more — as well as sweet treats like apricot raisin cake and apple tarts.
