We are here at the the Anacostia River Festival, celebrating DC Herstory! Today is a celebration of the women have impacted our community, city and nation! First volunteers at our booth today are CJR athletes, Benedict and Axton, and their mom’s Mae and Marian who have been integral in their son’s involvement on our team! Stop by, say hi and learn to erg with us at our booth with a waterfront view of the river. We are right across from the Anacostia Park pool! #dcriverfest @dcbridgepark@crcrowdc

The thing I like most about rowing:
You have to focus on what you are doing in order to be in sync with your teammates in the boat. The precision of the sport is what makes it beautiful, both in the boat and as a spectator. We are fortunate to have views of nature from a different perspective that what you normally see in Washington, D.C.
When I'm not at the boathouse:
I am working or traveling.
What rowing means to me:
I have been blessed to have gotten the full experience of rowing – the camaraderie, the friendships, the celebrations, victories, frustrations, and defeats (by a couple of seconds). I have traveled this country competing and bonding with my teammates, something I had no idea would happen when I took the Learn to Row class. It has been a privilege to be able to participate in and help positively impact the sport.
Day to day we're lucky when boats remain round side down, no one catches an ejector crab, and no one gets hurt on the water. But just in case, we need to be prepared! During out second annual Emergency Procedures Exercise at the boathouse, we'll review emergency procedures ashore, and then practice them on the water.
CRC MEMBERS: we’re looking for a few brave (and good-hearted) rowers—any skill level—to jump into a hands-on learning experience you won’t forget. Think: real boats, real scenarios… and yes, a staged “emergency” that calls for a rescue.

YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO FIND.
It’s hard to miss the trash that's appeared under the Pennsylvania Ave. Bridge lately… and yeah, it’s not exactly the vibe we’re going for.
If it didn’t get cleaned before, it’s on us now—before all that trash makes its way into the Anacostia River.
Join CRC, Anacostia Community Boathouse Association, and Anacostia Watershed Society for the annual Earth Day Cleanup.
ACBA is proud to be one of 30 cleanup sites across the region, and we’d love to see our community show up strong.
Grab some gloves, bring a friend, and let’s take care of the water we row on. 🌱🚣♀️

The thing I like most about rowing:
The shared blisters, tears, and sheer joy with old and new friends that last a lifetime.
When I'm not at the boathouse:
I am enjoying retired life's joys – fun times with family, hiking, biking, golf, sailing, and hanging at the tikibar.
CRC through the years:
I've had the joy to lead CRC as its president from1995 to 1997 and then watch its exponential growth: from 10 members in the lean mid-1990s, through existential threats from moving to the Anacostia from the Potomac and then the 11th Street bridge re-construction, and now to the juggernaut it is today. And the Club hasn’t lost the commitment to its mission: Community Rowing in the Nation's Capital. CRC is blessed with committed leaders, official and unofficial, as well as with dedicated members that sustain its success.
