New Slaves Routine
10 years ago I made this video to show the world what I thought was “realdjing”. At the time when I made it the “celebrity” dj was becoming a thing. DJs were becoming more “entertainers” and less talented. I was frustrated and absolutely HATING the fact that these clowns were making more money and getting better placements at festivals. People were forgetting about the artform of tablism and I was ANGRY 😤. Back then I used to get on social media and be THAT GUY. Telling people what realdjing is, complaining all the time and just being a prick. One day a homie told me to do something about it and shut my mouth. I thought I would let the “skills” talk for me 😂 … I love that I’ve always had this B-Boy mentality. I always think that somehow SKILLS will solve everything.
So after 10 years here’s what’s happened
1. The celebrity/ talentless dj has not only taken over but it has become the norm.
2. People have bastardized the term “realdjing” to the point that it makes me cringe
3. The culture is more forgotten now than ever
With all that being said
I still LOVE this shit. This routine still gives me goosebumps. I still think this is the coolest thing about djing. I still think celebrity/ talentless djs suck. I still think the artform of Turntablism deserves more shine and I’m still gonna keep making moments like this till I’m outta here.
