laser-cut, hand-finished wood frame, archival print
this piece means a lot to me and is definitely one that felt transformative to make. spent many months working on the frame with the support of @afhbronx . shoutout to the team and the artists/ designers i met along the way who helped shape this project :,) the journey is the reward fr!
i have many other things to say but i’ll sum it up with this: forever grateful for the sacrifices, love, and work of all those who came before me but especially the women. only way forward is backwards 🫡
(last and neverrrr least thank u cuzzy and sissy for always being my muses + soraya and mami tata for the rolos😆)
my sweet Tia Delsa. thank you for teaching me what it means to lead with love and kindness. your presence lives on in everyone who was lucky enough to know you, even if for a second. this day will forever be one of my favorite memories and i am so grateful to have been there to capture it
thank you 🤲🏽 @kenkelebahouse@verycoolcash@jamelshabazz and Ms. Corrine Jennings for including these images in such a special show. an important reminder of why it is we photograph
scanned darkroom print circa 2021ish
this is probably one of my favorite prints ever 🤸🏽♀️
sometimes it’s hard for me to know when a photo should exist in black and white or color, but this one really helped shape my discernment and my understanding of light. i remember shooting this outside in really harsh sunlight w a piece of tulle as a prop. don’t think it would’ve retained the same dreamlike feel in color cause the ambiguity would’ve been lost
was also super fun to print this one in the darkroom :,) spent hours on it but it was worth it

sissy & primaaaa, BREATHE IN BREATHE OUT
been thinking a lot about time and space and attention and memory. how much we accumulate. how fast things seem to move. self trust. building this installation was as rewarding as seeing the finalized product (maybe even more) and for that i am grateful
