Fiber Day was Fiberlous! Thank you to everyone who came out to learn, explore, and understand the history and importance of working with FIBER for both function and beauty. Thank you to our members who came out to spread the good word of craft.
Join us for our next Educational Event- WOOD DAY, Saturday, August 8, 10am-4pm.
"E. Pluribus Unum, Please Don't confuse My Patriotism with Politics". This is my tribute to America 250. It will be displayed the following 4 days- June 29, 30 and July 1 & 2 in the lobby of the Folk Art Center, as a SHCG member I will be demonstrating quilting skills in the lobby. I was inspired by the 1861 Mary R. Teter's Stars and Stripes quilt in the Smithsonian. My quilt is machine pieced, machine appliqued and machine quilted on my #Bernina 535. All the materials are from my stash and are items I thrifted from various estate sales or yard sales--yep the gold trim, red and white cotton solids from sales around Asheville, NC and the distressed blue is out of a Windham Gees bend package from an estate sale in Memphis, TN. #buncombe250 #america250 #america25nc #craftguild #blueridgeparkway

Every year, the students coming out of Haywood Community College's Professional Crafts Program remind us why WNC keeps producing makers worth watching.
After two years of intensive work — technique, design, business planning, studio practice — these graduates put their best pieces in front of the world at the Southern Highland Craft Guild Folk Art Center, May 9 - September 16.
Now, for the first time ever, the "much anticipated" annual show is available to view virtually on ArtsvilleUSA.
See the full exhibition online now at the link in bio.
Special thanks to @haywoodcommunitycollege , @craftguild , and curator Valerie Berlage (@laurainelilliestudios ).

Lyrical Tendencies is on view as the current Focus Gallery exhibition at the Folk Art Center. Though varied in material and technique, each of the 5 artists in the exhibit shares an approach rooted in sensitivity to line, balance, and the subtle gestures that give handmade work its voice.
Flutemaker, Lee Entrekin began in 1996, when he purchased his first flute from Geri Littlejohn of Woodsong Flutes. "I was hooked. I began making flutes in 1997. I have learned to make flutes through experimentation and the tremendous generosity of other flutemakers. I have gradually increased my production from making a few flutes for myself and friends to selling flutes through galleries, at shows, and over the internet," says Entrekin.
