Last night we had our rescheduled Salon Series concert featuring pianist Nicholas Shaneyfelt and mezzo-soprano and Cedar Rapids native Janara Kellerman. Cedar Rapids Opera’s Smith Young Artist program has been selected to receive a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Smith Young Artist program is foundational to many Cedar Rapids Opera programs, and centers on training young professionals in the industry. Smith Young Artists perform the annual touring children’s opera, provide free lessons in high schools, and sing in mainstage productions.
We are so very proud of our Smith Young Artists, and honored to receive this national support for the work we do right here in Cedar Rapids!

Meet Janara!
Mezzo-soprano Janara Kellerman, a CROpera vet many times over, can't wait for this Sunday's concert in Southeast Cedar Rapids! With Karla Goettel as her first voice teacher and the host of this concert, Janara will be performing in the very same room that she had her very first voice lesson this Sunday, the 15th at 3pm! After a successful kick off with Anna, the second Salon Series concert will take place this Sunday, March 8th at 2pm and be hosted by the Rethwisches. The concert will feature soprano and Iowa City native Abigail Rethwisch, with Dr. Michael Patterson at the piano.
