In this reel, we’re taking the legendary Mamiya 645 (born in 1975) for a spin with some very expired film:
📸 Kodak Gold 200 (expired 1990): rated at ISO 50 to compensate for the lost light sensitivity. 📸 Kodak Portra 400 (expired in 2021): overexposed slightly at ISO 200 for those softer pastel colors. 📸 Kodak Ektachrome 50 (expired 1989): rated at ISO 12(!!), and hoping for the best🤞🤞

$1 Film review! We bought some super cheap film from Temu so you don’t have to. Here’s our review:
Temu definitely caught our attention with an offer of two rolls for just $2, so we had to give them a shot. We added a couple more, but only the first two had that crazy low price. Altogether, we paid about $22 with delivery, which is still pretty cheap for four rolls in 2024.
There wasn’t much info on these films, but the listing online showed ISO 200. On the box, it said ISO 400, and on the canisters? Back to ISO 200. So, who knows? 🤷♂️ Another surprise: each roll only had 8 exposures, but on our automatic point-and-shoot, we only got 5 shots per roll! 😂
The results? Not bad! The colors are dim, with low saturation, and the grain is fine. Nothing extraordinary, but decent. Interestingly, the film shows a noticeable red halation in the highlights, very similar to Cinestill 800T.
End of the day? The photos look alright, but we’re still not even sure of the actual ISO! Sure, the upfront cost was low, but developing and scanning four rolls for just 20 pictures adds up. 😵 Do you think it’s a @cinestillfilm in disguise?
