Before the arrival of European colonizers, North America was home to a vast and diverse array of Indigenous cultures, each with their own unique history, languages, traditions, and ways of life. These societies, which have been living on the continent for thousands of years, shaped the land in ways that are often overlooked in mainstream historical narratives.

🌍 How one film changed everything - going back to the beginning with @_sashwa founder, Peter Eastwood, to see how watching Cowspiracy changed the course of his life ✨
“When I first watched Cowspiracy, I was shocked. Honestly, I didn’t believe it all at first. Growing up in New Zealand, dairy was part of life - we were taught it was healthy, even essential. Meat was considered necessary for survival.
But the film planted a seed. I read The China Study, and suddenly it all clicked into place. Overnight, I went plant-based. I lost weight, my health improved so much that even my doctor couldn’t believe it.
I wish I had known earlier. Going vegan - or even just eating less meat - is the single most powerful thing we can all do for the planet. We can’t wait for someone else to fix the environment. The answer is at the end of our knife and fork.”
Of course, Peter’s journey didn’t stop there. A passionate conservationist, when he had an opportunity to create a safari lodge that funds local conservation work through @_sashwa 's partner nonprofit, @korucamp - he jumped at it. From the start, he knew the focus would be on sustainability, so it was important to showcase a plant-based menu that anyone could enjoy: locally sourced, creative, and unforgettable.
🌱 As a social enterprise and fully vegan Safari and Wellness Retreat in South Africa, Sashwa finally brought together Peter's two greatest passions - protecting nature and showing the world that plant-based food can be as delicious as it is good for the planet. To think it all began with a friend who handed him a copy of Cowspiracy....
