See here pics of a piece I made with brilliant artist Katie Schwab. Katie came to CSW to work on a piece for Relative Ties, an exhibition for The Women’s Art Collection currently on show at Murray Edwards College in Cambridge. ‘Mobile’ was inspired by a picture Katie’s 3 year old son drew, we bent and welded steel rod to form a hanging piece which was tweaked and considered at every stage, developing solutions as we went to allow for a very organic, direct and involved process. Working with a fabricator can be complicated and challenging for artists but over the last 20 years of supporting artists to make their work I have learnt how to facilitate the making of a piece without steering or overly influencing the outcome. I really love this process, it’s different for every artist and I feel privileged to be part of making works like this. The rods were bent, balanced, pinned and at points welded to each other. Joints were tied, custom clips were investigated and varying arrangements tested before the form was decided, then the pieces daubed in delightfully sticky acrylic enamel. A few months back I made a prototype for the glorious @neon.uk . I made them a working scale model of a concept they had for a piece in Finland which they were pitching for and guess what, it works! And they secured the bid! They wanted to prove-out an idea they had for a sculpture which would move in the wind and what better place to test that than a small workshop on the North York Moors! #cowsikeworkshopstrikesagain I love this kind of work, getting to flex my kinetic sculpture brain and juggling a bunch of requirements for functionality and aesthetics to maintain the poise and lightness of the original concept. I’m always up for developing and prototyping ideas and can provide support around pitches for new work. I love working with artists on challenging ideas, finding novel and robust solutions! I made these clothing rails last year for @oliverspencer ‘s store designed by @anothercountryltd The brief was to create a clean look but not too industrial with a minimum of visible fixings and brackettery - right up my street. I caned quite a few hole saws on this job I seem to remember, but managed to come up with a good solution I think. A single M4 fixing at each joint with uprights passing through horizontals and welded in threaded adjustment to the ends to allow for onsite discrepancies of centuries old brick walls. More BTS stainless fab!!!! This was by far the most complex and challenging job of last year but it does look pretty fancy eh! We were commissioned by @specialguestscoffee and @mastudio.works to make these very bespoke coffee bars for SG’s glorious and fine new coffee shop in Marylebone. All the equipment is sunken into the top of the coffee bars with no visible cabling or plumbing, under counter equipment is housed behind bespoke stainless doors with maple lined cabinetry. Details include integrated sinks and taps and a glazed ambient display unit. There are special challenges when making things that will be under heavy use day in day out for years, which also have to do justice to such a clean and considered design aesthetic. A lot of work went into this, both in terms of fabrication design and execution. Tens of metres of welding grinding and sanding ably assisted by Adam, Will and Bob and install support from Anj @webbellisart I feel very proud to have delivered this project, it’s great to see it in use in such a high quality setting, and to have worked for such involved and exacting clients. BTS STAINLESS FAB!!!! See here some workshop and initial install pics of a kitchen island I fabricated to @stickers__ ‘ design at the back end of last year. Lots and lots and lots and lots of labour in stuff like this and when it’s all sanded and ground back smooth none of it is visible! (Or that’s the aim). Jame's design was beautiful and minimal so the game was to keep it as close to that as possible, hiding all the joints and making sure everything stayed straight and true. I’m really pleased with how it came out, as are the wonderful and Yorkshire based clients @kimioneill and @alastairstrong - true connoisseurs of kitchens! We've a nice little side gig making house signs for the National Trust and a couple of private clients. There is something dead satisfying about the simplicity of a sign, it says a thing and does a job! Local requests have mainly been for birds and bees of which I am also a huge fan. See here pics of a banister/baluster/balustrade/handrail we made for a client in Malton. Its a steel handrail and infill panels with raw copper rods running throughout. The copper couldn't be masked for powder coat so had to be fabricated to be removed for powder and reinstalled for installation. I love a handrail job but they ain't easy! I’m pretty jazzed with how this one off bespoke coffee table/backgammon board came out. It’s a while since I’ve made something in wood and metal and it’s not without its complications! Oil finished, stained cherry wood top, inlaid with brass and steel, mounted on lacquered steel legs. The lid has handles so can be used as a tray or flipped to cover a game in progress while another round of drinks is poured! #backgammon #bespokefurniture #madetomeasure #joinery #metalwork #inlay #coffeetable

We made these tall plinths for @broken_grey_wires for the exhibition Two Plus Two Makes Four which they curated @theauxiliaryprojectspace in Middlesbrough. We installed a tasty cocktail cabinet today somewhere in wild west London. Designed by @rmuqaddas and looking clean and sleek I’d say. Mild steel with clear powdercoat, built in fridge, marble counter top and glass fronted cupboard all come together and look pretty cohesive.
