Meet Colin Silvester, an IT leader building cybersecurity expertise to stay ahead. After 25 years in IT, one moment changed his path: a ransomware attack at his company. “It showed me we were technically prepared—but procedurally under prepared.” That experience pushed him to go deeper. After starting with short courses, he enrolled in the MSc in Cyber Security from the @_LondonU on Coursera. Today he: 🎓 Continues working while studying 🕤 Dedicates 10–15 hours a week 🔆 Applies what he learns immediately at work “I’ll use what I studied the night before in real conversations the next day.” For Colin, earning his master's meant staying relevant in a fast-moving field. 💡 His advice: “Be ready for the workload. This is a master’s—but it’s worth it.” Ready to build cybersecurity expertise you can use right away? Comment "CYBER" and we'll DM you the details.

Ever study something… only to forget it days later? You’re not alone, and it might be because of how you’re learning. One of the most effective methods is called spaced repetition. Instead of reviewing something once, you revisit it over time. Here’s why it works: 1️⃣ Forgetting strengthens memory: When you revisit information after some time, your brain works harder to recall it. This is what strengthens retention. 2️⃣ Short reviews beat long sessions: Five minutes today, five minutes tomorrow, and five minutes next week is often more effective than one long study session. 3️⃣ Spacing builds long-term memory: Instead of learning for the moment, you learn for the future. Small, spaced learning sessions help information stick. ✨ Save this post for your next learning session.

Leadership usually starts long before a title, a promotion, or managing a team. It begins with how you show up. Here’s what leadership looks like—even without the title: 1️⃣ Taking ownership: Instead of waiting for direction, you step in. You notice gaps, clarify next steps, and help move things forward. 2️⃣ Creating clarity: You summarize discussions, align priorities, and help people understand what matters most. 3️⃣ Supporting others’ success: You share knowledge, offer help, and elevate the people around you. 4️⃣ Staying steady when things get messy: Leadership often looks like calm problem-solving, not loud decision-making. This kind of leadership doesn’t require authority—it builds trust. And trust is often what leads to the next opportunity. ✨ Save this post as a reminder: leadership starts before the title.

👋 Meet Riley, who’s learning from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He completed the Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate on Coursera to strengthen his real-world skills and confidence. “I chose to learn on Coursera because it allows me to work through at my own pace,” he says. “I also had the ability to earn the certification through lab work and quizzes rather than having to go to a proctored test after a long day of work.” During slower weeks at work, Riley made the most of his time. “I was able to work on it in my downtime… It was really nice to be able to pick it up and drop it at any time.” That flexibility helped him build knowledge he felt was missing. “My learning goal was to widen my knowledge of the real-world practices of cybersecurity that I didn't get with my degree.” The impact showed up quickly. “Before taking this course, I was second-guessing myself as the youngest member on my team, but after the course, I feel confident that I can get across my point and be sure that it is accurate.” 🤓 His advice? “If you can complete it relatively quickly, it is by far the best bang for your buck out there for certifications.”
